Driving Relief Golf Odds, Prediction: McIlroy, Johnson vs. Fowler, Wolff
No major North American league is likely to get going anytime soon in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, but four PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff are looking to change that narrative – and for a good cause. This may be the first live (non-combat) sports event in the United States since the start of COVID-19.
McIlroy will pair with Johnson in a 2-on-2 match against Fowler and Wolff in a televised event on May 17 with all proceeds going to COVID-19 relief. Early golf odds have Rory and DJ as the -250 favourites with Rickie and Matt at +175 in an event that’s being called TaylorMade Driving Relief – Skins Game.
Golf Odds: TaylorMade Driving Relief – Skins Game
Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida will host the event. This all-star foursome, whom all play with TaylorMade products — will play for $3 million dollar, which will be provided by UnitedHealth Group to benefit either the American Nurses Foundation (which McIlroy and Johnson will play for) or the CDC Foundation (which Fowler and Wolff will play for).
These players haven’t played since the Players Championship, which was cancelled after round one on March 12. World number one Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson have combined to win 38 times on the PGA Tour including five majors. Fowler and Wolff (OSU Cowboys alumni) have combined for six Tour wins, and Fowler is aware his team are the underdogs. “I’m looking forward to it,” Fowler said Monday on NBC Sports’ Lunch Talk Live. “Actually, seeing some fan reaction saying of how much of a favourite Rory and DJ are. So Matt and I are going into this as underdogs. We’re ready to bring the upset.”
There is also a million dollar bonus from Farmers Insurance for the team that makes the most eagles and birdies during the event.
The event makes a lot of sense given our coronavirus restrictions. It would be easy for the two/four players (who surely would each be pre-tested for the coronavirus) to obey social distancing recommendations and there would be no fans allowed on the course. A small production crew would be needed for TV purposes and that’s it.
Leading up to the event, expect to see a bunch of betting options.
McIIroy, Johnson, Fowler, Wolff Golf Prediction
This is going to be a fun event and on paper McIIroy and Johnson will be even heavier favourites as we get closer to the competition. Wolff seems to be the odd man out of this competition and time will tell when the bright global spotlight shines on this youngster.
Take Fowler and Wolff as a value play to win for now and keep an eye out for more prop betting options on the golf odds page as the event nears.
