Great Golf Betting as Talented Field Assembles for Canadian Open
Frank Doyle makes his picks for the Canadian Open, which returns to the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club at Vancouver, BC after six years.
After facing the howling gales of the Kentish coast, the great players in world golf now face an entirely different but equally difficult challenge on the other side of the world.
The Canadian Open makes one of its rare visits to British Columbia this week when the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club hosts the Canadian National Championship.
Although the Shaughnessy overlooks the Straight of Georgia, it is recognisably a woody parkland course, the sight of which will come as a relief to those who suffered the terrors of the links last week at Sandwich, and to those who don’t like seeing the golf betting form blown away by the wind.
But that does not mean the Canadian Open will be a stroll through birdietown – the fairways are long and narrow, and the rough is notoriously high and difficult to hack through. The winner needs accuracy off the tee and strong arms to cut through the rough should his drivers let him down. Bearing that in mind, here are Sports Interaction’s
Fore! to Follow
Charl Schwartzel (+1800). That’s a good price on the Masters Champion, who showed form last week at the British Open.
Hunter Mahan (+2500). Mahan’s been a model of consistency all season, with fifteen or eighteen cuts made and seven top ten finishes. Fourth on tour in greens in regulation.
Brandt Snedeker (+3000). Snedeker came home early after getting blown away at Sandwich but he’s a talented player who’s won already this year.
Chez Reavie (+10000). Reavie finished joint fifth in the John Deere Classic two weeks ago, he’s 18th on tour in Driving Accuracy Percentage and he’s the 2008 Canadian Open Champion. Well worth an each-way bet at the price.
