Golf Lines Up Against Doral's Blue Monster

Frank Doyle makes his picks for who’ll conquer the Blue Monster at Doral this week.

Tiger Woods used to own the WGC Cadillac Championship. It was played at venues all over the world, in England, Ireland and the States, but it didn’t matter to Tiger.

The former Greatest Player the Game Has Ever Seen won the tournament six times, the last time in 2007, the first time it was played at Doral’s Famous Blue Monster Course. Tiger also won the Ford Open at Doral in 2005 and 2006, both of which were on the Blue Monster course, one of five at Doral. It was no monster to Tiger.

And as a measure of how the mighty have fallen, Tiger is a +1100 second favorite on the morning to win this weekend, when the World Golf Championship holds its second event of the year. After the matchplay in Arizona, the great players of the world are taking on the Blue Monster this week.

Martin Kaymer is favorite at +900, and that’s about right. Kaymer is ranked No 1 in the world, he’s the US PGA Champion, he came second to Luke Donald in the WGC Accenture Matchplay in Phoenix two weeks ago and he won in Abu Dhabi in January. Kaymer is the man they’re all scared of now.

As usual, there are a range of golf bets available on this weekend at Doral, as there are on all tournaments. There’s the outright, updated after each round, of course, but there’s also Group Betting, Big Guns Betting, Winning Margin, Top American, Top European and more!

Geoff Ogilvy shot 271 to win this competition in 2008. He’s worth an each way tickle at 33/1, but two value bets at 40/1 are Vijay Singh and YE Yang.

Vijay Singh, a former US Masters Champion, has been in the money this season, with top five finishes at Phoenix and Pacific Palisades so far this year. Korea’s YE Yang is coming into form at the start of the year, with three top ten finishes at from five events. Yang is worth a bet to tame the Blue Monster this weekend.
