2024 Presidents Cup Golf Betting Odds: Canadian Mike Weir Captains International Squad
The Americans are heavy favourites to win on the golf odds.
Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup is the second-biggest team event in golf – no offence, LIV Tour – after the Ryder Cup, which is staged every odd-numbered year and features the best of the USA against the best of Europe. The Presidents Cup has been held biennially since 1994 and essentially was created so the rest of the world other than Europe could partake in such an event.
There are 30 matches played over four days: 18 team matches – nine apiece using the Foursomes (or alternate shot) and Four-ball (best-ball) formats – followed by 12 singles matches on Sunday. All matches are worth one point apiece, for a total of 30 points. There are no playoffs, with each side receiving a half-point for matches tied after 18 holes. The first team to reach 15.5 points wins the Cup.
The host captain of each event chooses which format to begin the Cup with, and that’s International captain Mike Weir of Canada this year. Jim Furyk is the Team USA captain.
The top six players on each side are chosen automatically by world ranking points (why LIV golfers are out of luck) and the next six by captains. Weir chose South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Canada’s Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and Mackenzie Hughes, South Korea’s Si Woo Kim and Australia’s Min Woo Lee. This marks the first time in Presidents Cup history in which three Canadian players will compete for the International Team.
Conners finished one spot outside the automatic cutoff in the points standings, and Pendrith was the only Canadian to advance to the season-ending Tour Championship. Those two made their Presidents Cup debuts in 2022 but were pointless in eight matches combined. Hughes was a surprise choice this year over fellow Canadians Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin.
“If I never did anything in golf beyond this, it would be the career highlight,” Hughes said back when chosen. “I’ve looked up to Mike for a long time. To play for him in Canada is a fairy-tale, really. It’s almost like that scenario shouldn’t be allowed to happen but it is and I have that chance now.”
Furyk, meanwhile, made Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Brian Harman, Russell Henley and Max Homa his captain’s picks. Bradley, the 2025 Ryder Cup captain, was already scheduled to serve as an assistant captain but will now bring his clubs.
It’s the second time that Royal Montreal Golf Club hosts; it also has hosted the RBC Canadian Open 10 times. It plays to a par 70 at approximately 7,280 yards. In 2007, the USA captained by Jack Nicklaus beat the International team captained by Gary Player 19.5-14.5.
The Americans have lost the Presidents Cup just once: 1998 in Australia. The 2003 event was a tie in South Africa, but the USA kept the Cup as reigning champion.
Presidents Cup Golf Odds
The United States is -250 to win this event and -350 to retain the Cup, which means no worse than a tie. The Americans have the world’s top two players in Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, who have largely dominated on the PGA Tour in 2024. Scheffler, though, is 0-3-1 in his Presidents Cup career while Schauffele is 6-3-0. Scheffler is +450 to lead Team USA in points and +700 to lead overall. Schauffele is +550 and +900, respectively. Wyndham Clark is the +175 favourite to be the to American rookie scorer.
The International team is +260 to win the event and +100 on a points handicap of +3.5. Its favoured points scorer is Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama at +650, followed by Adam Scott, Sungjae Im and Canada’s Corey Conners all at +700.
Matsuyama has been inconsistent in past Presidents Cups, with a 7-10-5 overall record career but is the highest-ranked International player in the world and has two wins this year. Conners is 0-4-0 all-time at the Presidents Cup. Min Woo Lee is the -125 favourite to have most points among International rookies with Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes at +100.
On the winning margin prop, the United States by at least seven points is the +210 leader, while Internationals by the same is +1600. The overall favoured winning score is USA winning 17-13 and 16.5-13.5, both at +1000. That the Americans win all four days of competition is +600. That the Internationals do is +6600.
Presidents Cup Golf Predictions
USA wins the Cup again at -250 and also play the minus-3.5-point handicap at -125.
