Grillo Poised for Breakthrough at Quail Hollow

Overall, it has been a tough year for Emiliano Grillo. The 30-year-old Argentine has cracked the top 25 just five times in 17 events while missing the cut on four occasions, most recently at the PLAYERS Championship. However, Grillo has shown signs of a turnaround in his past two outings, following up a seventh-place performance at the RBC Heritage by claiming a share of fifth place last weekend in Mexico.

Listed as a distant +10000 bet to win this weekend, Grillo’s past success at this tournament should not be overlooked, finishing no worse than 14th in his past two appearances. Accordingly, look for him to pay out as a +1000 wager to finish among the top ten at this tourney for the second time in his career.

Jason Day First Round Leader

Wells Fargo Championship

  • Jason Day +2500

Jason Day has been idle since enduring a brutal final round at the Masters last month on his way to a distant 39th-place finish. The Australian’s struggles at Augusta were a particularly bitter pill to swallow considering the steady improvement he showed leading up to the Masters, with six top ten finishes in his previous eight events.

The winner at this event in 2018, Day returns to Quail Hollow sitting well back of the favourites as with +2500 wager. However, he has established himself as a perennial contender at this event with strong opening round performances, shooting sub-70 in three of his past four appearances including a sensational 63 a year ago. That adds to the value in the +4000 odds of the 35-year-old emerging as the first round leader.

Can Max Homa End Slump?

Max Homa returns to the Wells Fargo Championship aiming to claim his third victory in four years at this event, but must first overcome a slump that started with a shaky end to his weekend at Augusta, and continued with the 32-year-old missing the cut at both the RBC Heritage and Zurich Classic.

Homa has downplayed his recent struggles, proclaiming he feels “quite good with where his swing is at”. And if that’s true, loyal Homa sports betting fans could be poised to cash. In addition to lagging as a +2000 bet to raise the hardware once again this weekend, Homa offers considerable value as a +100 bet in a tournament matchup with the struggling Collin Morikawa.

The opportunity to take him on a value bet should no be overlooked in group wagering, where he is tagged as a +429 longshot in a group that also features Cameron Young, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Picks: Emiliano Grillo top ten (+1000); Jason Day first round leader (+4000); Max Homa over Collin Morikawa (+100.)
