2023 RBC Heritage Prediction: PGA Tour Odds and Betting
With an elevated purse of $20 million on the line, this year’s edition of the RBC Heritage features 16 of the top 2 players on the Official World Golf Rankings. That includes newly crowned Masters champion and new world No. 1 Jon Rahm, who closely trails the formerly top-ranked Scottie Scheffler.
While the focus will be squarely fixed on the growing rivalry between Rahm and Scheffler, who have combined to record six wins so far on this season’s tour, plenty of opportunities exist for sports betting fans to get in on props betting action ahead of tee off on Thursday at Harbor Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
2023 RBC Heritage Betting Odds
Here’s a look at some of the best bets available at this year’s tournament.
Thomas vs. Finau
The RBC heritage has been hyped as a golden opportunity for Justin Thomas to turn things around after a largely disappointing start to the season. However, given JT’s recent struggles and his checkered track record both at this event and historically after the Masters, sports bettors should proceed with caution.
Thomas has failed to produce a dominant round of golf since shooting a 65 in the final round to finish fourth at the WM Phoenix Open. In addition to cracking the top ten just once in four previous RBC Heritage appearances, Thomas has regularly suffered letdowns after playing the Masters, making the top ten just once and missing the cut twice over his past seven post-Augusta outings.
Conversely, Tony Finau was steady if not spectacular last weekend at Augusta, finishing at even par on the strength of a -3 first round. In addition to adding value to his lucrative +3600 odds of claiming the first round, Finau’s consistent play should be enough for him to pay out as a -141 bet to outpace Thomas this weekend.
Hovland Top European
A third-place finisher at the Players Championship, Viktor Hovland looked poised to take the next step after shooting a 65 in the first round at the Masters before fading to a career-best T7 finish at Augusta. However, there is plenty to like about the talented Norwegian heading into this weekend.
Hovland arrives in Hilton Head as the PGA Tour leader in first round putts, and ranks in the top ten in several other stat categories including scoring average and birdie average. Currently pegged at No. 9 on the OWGR, the 25-year-old also tore up the course in his lone previous appearance at the RBC Heritage, shooting rounds of 66 and 65 to finish at -14 in 2020, and is worthy of a +500 value bet to outpace heavily favoured Jon Rahm and finish as Top European.
Scottie Scheffler First Round Leader
It was a frustrating weekend for Scottie Scheffler at this season’s Masters. The 26-year-old showed his frustration while falling behind in his bid for a second straight jacket while shooting a disappointing second-round 75. However, Scheffler maintained his dominance in first round action while shooting 68, and has now shot under 70 over the first 18 holes in six of his past seven tour appearances.
While Scheffler lacks experience at this event, he enters this weekend’s tournament trailing only Jon Rahm in first round average scoring. And with Rahm facing the challenge of avoiding a letdown after last weekend’s big win, and Scheffler now having lots to prove after being bounced from the top if the world rankings, look for Scheffler to rebound and pay out as a +1800 bet to lead the way after 18 holes.
