2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am: PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds
Golf fans always circle the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on the annual PGA Tour schedule because it is staged at arguably the most spectacular public course in the USA (for two rounds): Pebble Beach in California. Jordan Spieth and Matt Fitzpatrick are favoured to win on the golf odds.
Golfers will rotate courses in the first three rounds: Pebble Beach Golf Links (par 72; 6,972 yards), Spyglass Hill Golf Club (par 72; 7,041 yards) and Monterey Peninsula Country Club (par 71; 6,957 yards). Then there’s a 54-hole cut and the players all compete at Pebble. The par-5 18th is one of the most recognizable holes in the world along the Pacific Ocean. The toughest stretch, though, is Nos. 8-10, all par 4s.
There will be a lot of stars from music, sports, television, movies, etc., playing in the amateur portion of the event. For example, former Wales soccer captain Gareth Bale will be in the field after recently announcing his retirement from the pitch. Actor Bill Murray plays here pretty much every year and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers also will compete – although he might not be a Packers quarterback by the time the first round tees off (Jets quarterback?). Bills QB Josh Allen will play, too.
Americans have won here almost exclusively, and Tom Hoge is the defending champion. He began the final round in a three-way tie for first but fell back with an even-par front nine. Hoge found his stroke on the back-nine and took charge with birdies on 16 and 17 to finish at 19-under 268 and claim his first PGA Tour win at age 32. He ranked second in the tournament in putting average with 1.607 putts per green in regulation.
Hoge became the fourth player this century to make the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am his first Tour win along with DA Points (2011), Arron Oberholser (2006) and Matt Gogel (2002). Hoge also entered the final round of the 2021 event tied for second but finished 12th.
It’s a bit of a watered-down field this week – Max Homa, who won Saturday at the Farmers Insurance Open, is among those not playing.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Odds
Jordan Spieth and Matt Fitzpatrick are both +900 favourites. In Spieth’s 10 appearances at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he has six Top-10 results with a win in 2017 at 19-under 268. He finished T3 in 2021 and had a two-shot lead on the 15th tee last year before faltering. Fitzpatrick’s best result here was T6 last year. He hasn’t played a PGA Tour event since a T7 at the year-opening Tournament of Champions.
Viktor Hovland is +1100 with Maverick McNealy +2000 and defending champion Tom Hoge +2200. Hovland plays for the first time since the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii and hasn’t finished worse than T21 in a handful of events in the 2022-23 wraparound season. Hovland was T38 his only trip here in 2020. McNealy was a runner-up to Daniel Berger in 2021 and comes off a T31 at the Farmers Insurance Open. Hoge has three Top-10 finishes already in the 2022-23 season.
Canadian golfers have had success at this event with a few runners-up and Nick Taylor’s win in 2020 when he finished at 19-under 268. He hasn’t won since. Taylor was T14 last year, Adam Hadwin and Mackenzie Hughes both T16, Taylor Pendrith T49, Adam Svensson T49, and David Hearn and Michael Gligic missed the cut.
Pendrith is +4000 this week with Taylor +6600, Ben Silverman +25000 and Gligic +50000. Silverman, who just won on the Korn Ferry Tour in the Bahamas, is among the sponsor exemptions
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Predictions
Take Spieth and McNealy for Top 10s, but the best value to win is Kevin Streelman at +10000. He missed the cut last year but wasn’t worse than T17 in the previous six years with a runner-up in 2020.
