2022 Wyndham Championship: PGA Tour Betting Odds
The Top 125 players on the FedExCup points list after the Wyndham qualify for the playoff-opening St. Jude Championship next week. Thus, most of the drama this week will be with those players around 125th and many top guys are skipping to be fresh for the playoffs. Any golfers who have joined the LIV Golf Series will not be participating in the playoffs as they are suspended from all PGA Tour events.
The Wyndham Championship has been played since 1938 – Sam Snead won it that year and would go on to win the event eight times, tied with Tiger Woods for the most victories by a player at a single tournament (Woods never won it).
Sedgefield Country Club’s Ross Course in Greensboro, N.C., is the host and is a par 70 at 7,130 yards. Sedgefield opened in the 1920s but hasn’t always hosted this tournament.
The defending champion is American Kevin Kisner as he won a six-man playoff over Branden Grace, Si Woo Kim, Kevin Na, Adam Scott and Canadian Roger Sloan. They all finished 72 holes at 15-under 265. Kisner had been 0-5 in the playoffs in his career. It was the third six-man playoff on the PGA Tour and the first since Robert Allenby won at Riviera in 2001. Snead is the only repeat winner of this event. Kisner is +2900 to join him.
CBS will televise weekend action in the United States and it will mark the final TV broadcast of long-time analyst and nine-time PGA Tour winner Nick Faldo.
Wyndham Championship Golf Odds
North Carolina native Webb Simpson is the +1500 favourite, and he sits 126th in the FedExCup points. He won this tournament in 2011 and was a runner-up in both 2018 & ’19. Simpson comes off a T69 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit on Sunday.
Shane Lowry is +1600 as is Will Zalatoris with Sungjae Im +1800 and Billy Horschel +1900. Lowry last played the event in 2020 and was T23. Zalatoris is the highest-ranked player in the world in the field at No. 14 and was T29 here last year. Im’s best finish at Sedgefield is T6, while Horschel has a few Top 5s here but hasn’t won.
The lone Canadian to win the tournament was Stan Leonard in 1957, which would be the first of his three career PGA Tour victories. As noted above, Sloan was the top finisher last year among the playoff losers. Nick Taylor was T10, Adam Hadwin also T10, Mackenzie Hughes T37 and Michael Gligic T65. Corey Conners is +2400 this week with Taylor Pendrith (off a runner-up in Detroit) at +4500, Adam Svensson +5000, Mackenzie Hughes +11000, Nick Taylor +17000, Michael Gligic +17000 and Sloan +31000.
