2022 Presidents Cup Golf Betting Odds and Prediction

The Americans are heavy favourites on the golf odds.

The Presidents Cup is essentially an offshoot of the much more prestigious Ryder Cup, which features Team USA vs. Team Europe – no Europeans are allowed in this event for the international team. This event debuted in 1994 and while the USA has had its issues in the Ryder Cup, it has lost just one Presidents Cup: In Australia in 1998. There was a tie in 2003 and if there’s draw here, the teams share the Presidents Cup. In the Ryder Cup if there’s a draw, the defending champion keeps it.

Because this is a PGA Tour event, no LIV golfers will be playing. The Presidents Cup is a four-day, match play event with 30 total matches (thus 30 points at stake), comprised of a 12-person teams with no purse or prize money. The Ryder Cup takes place over three days and has a total of 28 points at stake.

The schedule this year is: Thursday, five foursomes (alternate shot) matches; Friday, five fourball (best ball) matches; Saturday, four fourballs and then four foursomes; Sunday, 12 singles. The captain of the USA team is Davis Love III, and South Africa’s Trevor Immelman, the 2019 Masters champion, leads the international squad (Canada’s Mike Weir is an assistant). No question that team USA has a stronger team overall, but that doesn’t always matter in match play.

Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte hosts for the first time. It usually hosts the annual Wells Fargo Championship but not this year so the course could be prepared and it also hosted the 2017 PGA Championship won by Justin Thomas – who is on Team USA.

The Americans won the 2019 Presidents Cup (COVID rescheduled this to 2022 and it will be held in even-numbered years going forward) in Australia by a score of 16-14 when Tiger Woods was captain. The 2024 event will be held at Royal Montreal Golf Club – it also hosted in 2007.

The Presidents Cup 2022

  • USA -5000
  • Draw +3300
  • International +1400

Team USA is a -726 favourite and has big names like world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 4 Patrick Cantlay, No. 5 Xander Schauffele, No. 7 Justin Thomas and No. 9 Collin Morikawa not to mention the likes of Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau and former FedExCup champion Billy Horschel. Scheffler and Schauffele are +700 co-favourites to lead all players in points this week.

The top-ranked international player in the world is No. 17 Hideki Matsuyama, and that team really was decimated by LIV defections. The internationals are +647 and a draw +2000.

Canadians Corey Conners (+700 to lead international team in points) and Taylor Pendrith (+1400) are on the international squad, the first time in this competition for both. Conners was nearly a captain’s pick in 2019 and was an automatic selection this year after finishing the PGA Tour season fourth on the international team standings.

“Yeah, I don’t really think I have to play the underdog role up,” international captain Trevor Immelman said recently. “I think everybody knows it. Everybody sees it clear as day. Our team has had a lot of adversity thrown at us over the last year or so. But adversity makes you stronger.”

Presidents Cup Golf Predictions

USA wins the Cup again but obviously not much value at -726. Maybe sprinkle a little on a draw at +2000 as well.
