World No. 1 Jon Rahm is favoured on the golf odds.

Patrick Cantlay won his first FedExCup title just two weeks ago at the Tour Championship to close out the 2020-21 campaign. This tournament starts the points chase for the 2022 Tour Championship and a lot of guys will be making their PGA Tour debut off a promotion from the Korn Ferry Tour.

The vast majority of big-name players will not be seen on the PGA Tour for a while other than next week’s Ryder Cup, although Rahm surprisingly is playing this event, which had been called the Safeway Open the past five years.

Silverado Resort and Spa’s North Course in Napa is the host track, a par 72 at around 7,120 yards. Americans have won the past five years and Stewart Cink is the defending champion. Cink shot a final-round 7-under 65 to finish at 21-under 267 for a two-stroke victory over Harry Higgs a year ago. It was Cink’s first win since beating Tom Watson in a playoff at the 2009 British Open. Cink won again back in April at the RBC Heritage the week after the Masters. He’s not playing this week.

It’s going to take probably at least 15 under par to win this event. It you are wondering what Fortinet does, it calls itself a global leader in broad, integrated and automated cybersecurity solutions.

Spain’s Jon Rahm is the +351 favourite – rare to see a guy with that short of odds these days. Rahm hasn’t played this tournament since a T15 in 2016. He comes off a second-place finish at the Tour Championship.

Webb Simpson and Hideki Matsuyama are each +1100, and then there’s a drop-off to Kevin Na and Will Zalatoris at +2000. Simpson hasn’t played here since a 17th-place finish in 2017. Matsuyama’s best finish in the event is a T3 twice. Na was a runner-up in 2015, losing in a playoff to Emiliano Grillo (+4000). It’s the tournament debut for Zalatoris.

The first staging of this tournament was in 2007 at a different course and Canadian Mike Weir won it. That was the lefty’s eighth and final PGA Tour victory. Adam Hadwin was a runner-up by a shot to Cameron Champ in 2019.

Last year, Michael Gligic was T14 as was David Hearn. Roger Sloan missed the cut as did Graham DeLaet. Sloan is +5700 this week with Hadwin +5900, Adam Svensson +7900, Nick Taylor +8000, Taylor Pendrith +9000, Gligic +20000 and David Hearn +28300.

Fortinet Championship Golf Predictions

Take Rahm and Matsuyama for Top 10s but the winner is Brian Stuard at +5000. He has improved three straight years at this tournament, capped by a T3 in 2020.
