2020 Sanderson Farms Championship: PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds

Scottie Scheffler is the favourite on the golf odds.

This tournament began as the Magnolia State Classic but has been an official PGA Tour event since 1994. Last year for the first time, it became a standalone-event – instead of an opposite-field tournament — with full FedExCup points available as well as an invitation to the Masters for the winner. That’s again the case this week at the Country Club of Jackson, a par 72 at around 7,460 yards. It hosts for the seventh time. Sanderson Farms is one of the USA’s leading food corporations and is based in Mississippi.

Seven of the past eight victors have been first-time winners on the PGA Tour. Last year, Colombia’s Sebastian Munoz continued that trend. He made a 15-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole and then beat Sungjae Im with a par on the first extra hole. Munoz shot a final-round 70 and Im a 66. A couple of players have won this event twice but no one has repeated since it became an official Tour event. Munoz is +2900 to win.

The past five winners have finished at least 18 under par – both Munoz and Im finished right on that number last year. Americans claimed four of those wins.

Previous major champions such as Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel highlight the field, but Scheffler is the +1000 favourite. The 24-year-old last played at the Tour Championship and was T5. He had to withdraw ahead of the U.S. Open after testing positive for COVID-19. Scheffler was T16 here last year.

Oosthuizen and Im are both +1200. Oosthuizen is playing here for the first time. Im had that runner-up last year but missed the cut in 2019. Will Zalatoris is +1600. He was the favourite last week in the Dominican Republic and finished T8. It’s his first time playing this event.

Canadians have had some success in this tournament with Dan Halldorson prevailing in 1986, Richard Zokol in 1992 and Nick Taylor in 2014. Taylor has one more win since, the 2020 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and is +15500 this week. Taylor missed the cut last year at 2 over.

Corey Conners was a runner-up by four shots to Cameron Champ in 2018. Conners didn’t fare near as well last year in shooting 72-71 and missing the cut. He’s +3600. David Hearn finished T23 last year and is +20400. Roger Sloan is +25600. We liked Mackenzie Hughes to win last week and just missed as he finished runner-up by a shot to Graeme McDowell. Hughes is taking this week off.

Sanderson Farms Championship Predictions

We like Conners for a Top 10, but the winner at +6100 is relative unknown Carlos Ortiz. The native of Mexico has yet to win on the PGA Tour but has been fourth and third the past two years at this tournament.
