2019 RBC Canadian Open: PGA Golf Odds and Predictions

RBC Canadian Open History, Dates and Location

It’s a new spot on the schedule for the RBC Canadian Open as it had been played the week after the British Open, which is arguably the worst spot on the entire PGA Tour season schedule. Now, it’s the week before the U.S. Open – the earliest this has ever been played.

Unfortunately, that still means many big-name players are skipping the tournament because some just don’t like playing the week before (or after) a major championship. Organizers did increase the purse this year in hopes of luring a stronger field.

The Canadian Open is part of golf’s “Triple Crown” which also includes the U.S. Open and British Open. Only two players have won all three in the same year: Lee Trevino in 1971 and Tiger Woods in 2000. Tiger’s not playing this week, though.

It’s the first time that Hamilton Golf & Country Club hosts the Canadian Open since 2012 when American Scott Piercy won at 17-under 263, with the total a tournament record (tied in 2014 by Tim Clark at Royal Montreal). Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville had hosted the previous four years. Hamilton Golf & Country Club is a par 70 measuring around 7,000 yards. It’s the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Open’s first visit there.

The Canadian Open takes place from Monday June 3, 2019 to Sunday, June 9, 2019.

In a bit of a surprise, world No. 1 Brooks Koepka is playing this week after not at the fairly prestigious Memorial Tournament last week. Koepka repeated at the PGA Championship last time he teed it up and is the defending champion of the U.S. Open. He’s +640 this week. He didn’t play at the Canadian Open last time it was at Hamilton G&CC.

Defending champion Dustin Johnson is the +577 favourite. He won last year at Glen Abbey with a score of 23-under 265. Johnson hasn’t played since he was tied for second at the PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy is +800 as he plays this tournament for the first time. He comes off a surprising missed cut at the Memorial.

Canadian Golfer Odds

Pat Fletcher was the last Canadian to win this tournament back in 1954 at Point Grey Golf and Country Club in Vancouver. Mike Weir lost a playoff to Vijay Singh in 2004 at Glen Abbey.

Weir is +47600 this week. Among other notable Canadians, Adam Hadwin is +6600, Corey Conners +9200 and Mackenzie Hughes +12300. Hadwin missed the cut in 2012 at Hamilton. So did Hughes. A total of 12 Canadians are set to play.

RBC Canadian Open Predictions

Like McIlroy and two-time Canadian Open winner Jim Furyk for Top 10s, but the winner is Bud Cauley at +5100. He was T4 at this course in 2012 and comes off a Top 10 last week in Ohio.
