2023 Singapore Grand Prix Prediction: Formula 1 Betting Odds
Verstappen established the longest win streak in F1 history with his victory in his home race at the Dutch Grand Prix two weeks ago, inching him ever closer to a third straight Formula 1 title.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Verstappen has soared to a -433 favourite on the Singapore Grand Prix odds, and also sports -125 odds to claim both the checkered flag and the fastest lap in Sunday morning’s race. Verstappen’s Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez sits second as a +900 bet to win this race for a second straight year while Fernando Alonso rounds out the front of the pack at +1700.
Dutch Grand Prix Race Time, Weather Forecast
Lights out at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. ET on Sunday morning at Marina Bay Street Circuit. There is a risk of rain on both Saturday and Sunday, however skies are expected to clear ahead of race time, with temperatures forecast to reach into the high 20s Celsius.
Anatomy of a Win Streak
Max Verstappen’s performance this season has been one of the most dominant of any athlete in any sport in recent history. With wins in 10 straight races, Verstappen has now reached the podium in each of this season’s 14 races, and 31 times since the start of last season.
The 25-year-old Dutchman has also claimed the fastest lap six times this season, but has been denied in each of the past three races. He has also claimed the pole on eight occasions this season, but has also failed to be the top qualifier in three of the past four races, as well as at this race a year ago, when he started a distant eight on his way to a seventh-place finish, which equals his worst finish in 33 outings since failing to finish in Australia in early 2022.
Verstappen’s recent uneven results in Singapore may buoy hopes for other drivers. However, he still has two podium finishes to his credit at this race, finishing second in 2018 and third in 2019. That said, it is tough to overlook the success that his teammate Sergio Perez has enjoyed in Siungapore, and his attractive +900 odds to earn his third win of the season.
McLaren’s Form Fading
After recently showing signs of joining rivals Ferrari, Mercedes, and Aston Martin in the battle for second place in the F1 Constructors Standings, McLaren has returned to familiar middling form since the F1 schedule resumed.
Lando Norris has followed up his back-to-back second-place performances in Britain and Hungary with three finishes outside the top six, capped by a disappointing eighth-place finish two weeks ago in Italy. His rookie teammate Oscar Piastri has also struggled. Piastri cracked the top five in both Britain and Hungary, but has earned just one total point since, with his 12th-place run in Italy marking the seventh race he has finished outside the points.
Sunday marks Piastri’s debut in Singapore, and given his disappointing performances in night races in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, the talented Australian offers little value as a -357 bet to earn a point on Sunday. Conversely, Norris has been steady in two previous appearance in Singapore, including a fourth-place run a year ago, and is worth a value wager as a +225 bet to return to the podium this weekend.
