Tiger-Cats vs. Roughriders Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds
Could the Tiger-Cats season be in jeopardy? It’s hard to say that of a team that is 5-1, but after a horrific season ending injury to their star Quarterback, it very well could be. They travel to Regina to face a Roughriders team riding a two-game winning streak.
CFL Odds and Betting
The Roughriders opened up as 3-point favourites against the travelling Tiger-Cats. The Ti-Cats haven’t had much success in Regina over the last 22 meetings, recording a 4-17-1 mark over that time. In fact, the Cats haven’t had great success against the Green Riders in general, going 11-28-1 ATS in their last 40 games. Three out of the last four games have played to the under in this head to head matchup.
The last time Hamilton won in the province of Saskatchewan was back in July of 2015, in a 31-21 decision.
Of note, with the injury to Jeremiah Masoli, the Tiger-Cats futures number to win the Grey Cup have dropped to +550, last week at this time they were sitting at +225.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Jeremiah Masoli is done for the season. It’s the sad reality in Hamilton after the a fluke non-contact injury early in the game. The official diagnosis is a torn ACL in his left knee. Masoli ranks second in the CFL in passing touchdowns (9), third in completions (125) and passing yards (1576).
Now driving the bus of the league’s highest scoring offence (210 points in six games) is third-year pro Dane Evans. Evans managed to lead the Tiger-Cats to only three field goals in three-plus quarters against the Blue Bombers. He was 13-of-25 for 94 yards. He’ll need to do more and will get that opportunity in Saskatchewan Thursday night. On Monday they signed Quarterback David Watford, who spent last season with the Riders and was cut after training camp this year. He will make his debut with Hamilton in Regina this Thursday.
Of note, this will be Simoni Lawrence’s second game served in a two-game suspension handed down to him earlier in the season.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Roughriders are coming off back-to-back wins against the Lions and have won three of their last four games to improve their record to 3-3 on the season.
The Roughriders offence has scored 83 points in the last two games for an average of 41.5 points per game. Prior to these last two games, the offence averaged 25 points per game.
William Powell is coming off his best performance as a member of the Roughriders with 146 yards on 21 carries (three touchdowns). He has vaulted into third place in league rushing, just 35 yards off of the lead currently held by William Stanback of the Alouettes.
Quarterback Cody Fajardo will start once again for the Green Riders, but it should be interesting to see what happens the following week. After the game against Hamilton, starter Zach Collaros is eligible to come off the six-game IR.
