Tiger-Cats vs. Argonauts Prediction: CFL Week 5 Point Spread, Odds
The Argos are 1.5-point favourites on the CFL Odds with a total of 52.5 points.
CFL Odds and Betting
The Argos had won six straight in the series before losing all three to the Ticats last season. The lone matchup in Toronto was the last one, a 33-31 Tiger-Cats victory. Bo Levi Mitchell finished the game 31-for-40 with 362 yards through the air and a touchdown pass. He improved to 15-2 all-time against Toronto. Hamilton kicker Marc Liegghio made all six of his field goal attempts, including a 48-yard walk-off winner.
Impressive as he not only kicked the winner into a swirling wind but did so on a slick BMO Field surface. Liegghio’s winner capped a seven-play, 35-yard drive with no timeouts for Hamilton. Lirim Hajrullahu’s 28-yard field goal with 56 seconds remaining had put Toronto ahead 31-30. It was the Ticats’ first sweep of Toronto since 2019. Chad Kelly was 17-for-26 with 255 passing yards and three total touchdowns in the loss for the Argos.
The teams also played twice this preseason with each winning at home. Toronto is 6-3 ATS in the past nine regular-season meetings. The total has landed over in 15 of the past 23.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Hamilton was on the bye in Week 3 and clearly fixed some things as the Ticats’ got their first win of the new season last Friday in Week 4, 35-17 at home vs. Montreal.
Two Hamilton defenders scored touchdowns in rookie linebacker Devin Veresuk, who also led the team with eight tackles, and veteran defensive lineman Julian Howsare. It surely helped that the Alouettes were without starting quarterback Davis Alexander.
Offensively for Hamilton, Bo Levi Mitchell was 25-for-31 for 247 yards and two scores in his 100th career CFL win. It’s just the 11th time a QB has reached triple-digit wins, and Mitchell did it faster than the first 10.
The offensive line allowed no sacks, no hits and only five pressures on the quarterback, which was tied with Saskatchewan for the least amount in Week 4.
Kenny Lawler and Tim White had the TD catches. Nine different Ticats caught at least one pass.
Hamilton is 3-6 SU in its past nine on the road and 1-4 ATS in its past five in Toronto.
Toronto Argonauts
The Argos got their first victory in Week 4, 29-16 at Ottawa. Rookie defensive back Derek Slywka had one of the great games in franchise history as he returned a fumble 105 yards for a touchdown and then returned a blocked field goal 120 yards for a score. Those and five sacks from the Toronto defence were the difference for the defending champions. Andrew Chatfield Jr. got to the quarterback twice, taking over the league lead in sacks with five, and had a pass knockdown.
With starting QB Chad Kelly still sidelined as he works his way back from a broken leg, Nick Arbuckle completed 18-for-25 for 269 yards with a TD and interception. DaVaris Daniels led the squad with 95 yards on five receptions. Kelly is not expected back this week even having practiced on a limited basis. Running back Deonta McMahon (ankle) also is expected to remain out. The Argos are 2-3-1 ATS in their past six overall.
