Tiger-Cats vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds
The Alouettes return home after claiming a 38-32 win in Calgary last week, and now enjoy a four-point lead over second-place Hamilton in the divisional standings. The Tiger-Cats eked out a narrow 24-23 win over the visiting Toronto Argonauts last week despite missing star quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, who remains sidelined indefinitely by an ankle injury that required surgery. With the win, Hamilton snapped a two-game slide and claimed a two-point lead over the slumping Argos in the CFL East.
The Alouettes have emerged as a massive 10.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 8 odds. The Ti-Cats lag as distant +400 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 56.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
Sunday night’s contest marks the second of three meetings between these teams this season. The Alouettes opened their schedule with a 39-27 win in Hamilton to snap a two-game head-to-head losing streak, but have enjoyed regular success when hosting the Ti-Cats, winning four of their past five dates at Percival Molson Stadium while limiting Hamilton to just 22.6 points per game. However, the Als have gone just 3-3 ATS in their past six versus the Tabbies and have failed to cover in their past two home dates with Hamilton. Despite those head-to-head woes, the Alouettes remain a very attractive bet. The squad has scored at least 29 points in each of their past six contests to date, and have gone 4-2 ATS this season. However, defence remains a concern, with Montreal allowing 32 points per game, generating a steady 6-0 run for CFL totals bettors taking the OVER.
None of those concerns have dampened the Als’ position on the Grey Cup odds, where they continue to lead the way as +200 chalk. The Tiger-Cats were already facing offensive concerns before the loss of their star pivot and have scored just 14.7 points over their past three games after tallying 35 points per game in their first three outings. A nd despite outlasting Toronto last week, the Ti-Cats have continued to tumble on the grey Cup odds, where they lead only Ottawa as a +4000 bet.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Tre Ford enjoyed his first career star as a CFL pivot last week, with mixed but promising results. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native generated 218 passing yards for one TD and one pick. And while that is the lowest complete-game passing yardage produced by a CFL starter so far this season, Ford redeemed himself with his ground game, scrambling for a game-high 109 rushing yards that gave this team a chance to win. Ford’s mobility gives a further boost to a Hamilton ground game already anchored by Larry Rountree, who contributed 44 rushing yards and now ranks fifth in the CFL with 334 yards.
Montreal Alouettes
With the Ti-Cats still struggling to overcome the loss of Bo Levi Mitchell, the Alouettes enjoy a golden opportunity on Sunday night to address defensive concerns while padding their divisional lead. Davis Alexander maintained his torrid pace with a 402-yard, three-TD performance in last week’s win over the Stampeders and has now connected for multiple scores in four of six outings so far this season. Tyson Philpot saw his run of four straight 100+ receiving yard performances end while making five catches for 88 yards, However, the Delta, BC native remains on a record-setting pace with 807 receiving yards through six games and ranks fourth in the CFL with four TD passes.
