Stampeders vs. Roughriders Prediction: CFL Week 6 Point Spread, Odds

The Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders are heading in opposite directions. The Stamps lost again last week, making it their third shortcoming in four contests this season. Meanwhile, the Roughriders continued to climb upwards, picking up their second straight win and third in four outings.

These two teams met up two weeks ago with the Roughriders winning that game in overtime by three points. Calgary is hoping for a different result this time but should bettors have faith in them? Let’s take a closer look.

The Riders are 1.5-point favourites to win on the CFL odds, with the total sitting at 44.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

The Stampeders are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games played overall and 1-6 ATS in their past seven games played during the month of July. However, they are 11-2-1 ATS in their last 14 games when coming off an ATS loss. As for their totals, the under has hit in seven of their last eight games when coming off a straight-up loss.

Meanwhile, the Roughriders are 2-8 ATS in their past 10 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four home games. They haven’t had much luck covering the spread lately. For what it’s worth, the over has hit in six of their last seven Saturday games.

Calgary Stampeders

There are eight teams in the CFL and Calgary ranks sixth in points per game at 19.5. That’s not very good. Keep in mind that 26 points came in their lone win, which means they’ve averaged just 17.3 points per game in their other three contests.

Much of the issues have to do with their inconsistent passing game. Quarterback Jake Maier has left a lot to be desired out there so far. He’s completed just 57.4 per cent of his passes, throwing for 907 total yards, and only two touchdowns compared to six interceptions. Three of those picks came against the Roughriders just a couple of weeks ago.

If Calgary wants to win Saturday’s affair, expect a heavy reliance on the ground game. Running back Dedrick Mills has shown great ability in a stagnant offensive group. He’s rushed for 273 yards on 47 carries, averaging out to 5.8 yards per carry. He’s also going for 91 yards a game this season.

Mills has to have a strong game here and Maier must take better care of the ball. If that happens, the Stamps will have a chance.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

Whereas Calgary’s offence is stagnant, Saskatchewan’s moves. They are second in the league in passing yards gained per game as quarterback Trevor Harris has performed well. Harris has completed 66.2 per cent of his passes this season, for 1,159 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. His quarterback rating is a healthy 96.0 as a result.

What’s interesting is that Harris had a pedestrian game against Calgary a couple of weeks ago but the team still won. He passed for 273 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Sixty of those yards came on one play, so he had a so-so game the rest of the way. Running back Jamal Morrow was the alpha in that outing, carrying the ball 22 times for 133 yards, which is about half of his season yardage total. We’ll see if the Stamps have a better answer for him.
