Stampeders vs. RedBlacks Prediction: CFL Week 9 Point Spread, Odds
Sporting the CFL’s worst record at 1-6, Ottawa should at least be well rested after last week’s bye as they look to snap a four-game losing streak. Calgary is second in the West at 5-2 after stumbling in a 23-21 home loss against Montreal in Week 8.
The RedBlacks are 3.5-point favourites to win on the CFL odds, with the total pegged at 49.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
This wraps up the regular season series following Ottawa’s 20-12 win in Calgary back in Week 3. It was the RedBlacks’ only win of the season to date, but the biggest impact on the game came from the inclement weather rather than any individual player. Ottawa has won four straight in head-to-head action.
These teams trend in completely opposite directions in a couple of key categories this week. Calgary is 3-0 both straight up and against the spread on the road this season, while the RedBlacks are winless while failing to cover in three home dates.
You might want to brace for a lower scoring game this week as the Under has played in six of the last eight head-to-heads. In addition, the total has gone Under in four of the Stamps’ last six games overall and four of five for Ottawa.

Calgary Stampeders
A last minute field goal ended Calgary’s chances in Week 8, snapping a three-game win streak. Still, the Stampeders have been a surprisingly strong team to begin the season. Unfortunately, the injury bug has bitten Calgary in a big way. Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., and receivers Damien Alford and Jalen Philpot will all sit out this week. They join receivers Clark Barnes and Reggie Begelton, who are already on the shelf.
Former NFLer P.J. Walker struggled in relief of Adams last week, completing just three of seven pass attempts for 20 yards. Walker is starting this week, but you should expect a bigger role for running back Dedrick Mills, who put up 78 rushing yards and two TDs against Montreal. Mills has the second-most rushing yards in the CFL (544) and he leads the league with seven rushing TDs.
Ottawa RedBlacks
The week off was much needed for Ottawa after they were forced to use three different passers two weeks ago against Hamilton. Dru Brown was knocked out of the game in the second quarter after taking a blindside hit. Dustin Crum played the majority of the game, while Justin Hardy had one pass attempt. All three players finished with no touchdown passes and one interception. Brown is expected to play this week.
The RedBlacks defence will need to be the star against Calgary and they should be up to the task of handling Walker. Ottawa is roughly league average in most defensive statistics, so the key will be containing Walker and Mills. The RedBlacks have the clear edge at quarterback this week, so I’m expecting a low scoring, close game.
