The Elks continued their drive back into playoff contention with a decisive 35-20 victory in last Monday’s Labour Day Classic matchup with the Stampeders at McMahon Stadium, and have now won four of five contests. Conversely, the Stampeders’ playoff hopes continue to fade, with the squad now riding a three-game losing streak as they seek their first victory on the road in seven games since last October.

Buoyed by last week’s win, the Elks return home as 3.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 14 odds. The Stampeders trail as +140 road underdogs on the moneyline and the total is pegged at 50.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

Saturday night’s matchup marks the second of three scheduled meetings this season between these historic rivals. With last week’s victory, the Elks have now taken two straight from Calgary, ending a dismal 3-15 straight up run in head-to-head action that dates to 2015.

Recent clashes between these squads have tended toward high scoring, with the total reaching 50 or higher in seven of their past 10 meetings, fuelling a steady 8-2 run for the OVER in totals betting.

Calgary Stampeders

Now deadlocked with the Elks at eight points, three points back of Saskatchewan in the hunt for third place in the CFL West, the Stampeders have clearly entered desperation mode. The Stamps play four of their final seven games on the road, and need a win on Saturday to avoid falling into the divisional basement.

With desperate times calling for desperate measures, head coach Dave Dickenson has elected to sit beleaguered quarterback Jake Maier on Saturday in favour of Logan Bonner. The 26-year-old out of Utah State connected on four of six pass attempts after entering relieving Maier on Monday, but has yet to toss a scoring pass while seeing very limited action since joining the Stamps last season.

One bright spot for the Stamps in last week’s loss was the play of receiver Reggie Begelton, who led the way with 118 receiving yards and sports intriguing +1000 on the CFL player props to score the first TD on Sunday.

Edmonton Elks

The revitalized Elks offence turned in another steady performance on Monday. Overall, Edmonton has averaged 34.8 points per game during the team’s 4-1 run and has averaged just under 30 points over its past five dates with the Stampeders.

Quarterback McLeod Bethel Thompson enjoyed another productive outing in the absence of injured pivot Tre Ford. Bethel Thompson connected for three TDs and 486 yards in last week’s win and has now tossed for seven scores and 920 total passing yards over the past three games, earning him the start on Saturday despite Ford’s improving health.

One of three Elks receivers to reach 100 receiving yards last week, Tevin Jones racked up a season-high 208 receiving yards and two scoring catches last week, and is a +125 bet to find the end zone anytime on Saturday.
