Stampeders vs. Blue Bombers Prediction: CFL Week 5 Point Spread, Odds
The Stamps had a bye last week and were last on the field in a 29-26 home overtime loss against Saskatchewan on June 24. The Bombers played in Montreal on Canada Day, downing the Als 17-3.
Winnipeg is an 8-point favourite to win on the CFL odds, while the total sits at 46.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
The Blue Bombers won all three meetings between these teams last season and have taken seven of the last 10 head-to-heads. The Over hit in two of three games last year and seven of the last 10 overall. The Stampeders haven’t won in Winnipeg since 2017.
Calgary’s lone win of the season came on the road, so getting away from McMahon Stadium might be a welcome change. That road win was also the only time they covered the spread this season. The total has gone Under in two of the Stampeders’ three games.
Winnipeg is an even 1-1 at home in 2023. They’re 3-1 against the spread overall, including 1-1 ATS at IG Field. The Bombers have split the Over/Under evenly on the road and at home.
Calgary Stampeders
Calgary should be well rested after a Week 4 bye, but an overtime loss against the Riders two weeks ago likely still stings. Quarterback Jake Maier finished 18-for-35 passing, throwing for 288 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Maier added another touchdown on the ground, but has looked inconsistent early in the season. The 26-year-old has 785 total passing yards with just two touchdowns and five interceptions in three games.
Slow starts have been and issues for the Stamps. Overall, Calgary has scored just nine total first-half points in two divisional matchups. The Stampeders have scored 67 points on the season, which puts them ahead of only the winless Elks in the West Division.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Bombers are coming off a win in Montreal, but it was far from an offensive showcase. Part of that lack of offence can possibly be blamed on the weather, which delayed the opening kickoff nearly two hours. Quarterback Zach Collaros finished 15-for-23 passing, throwing for 177 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Collaros ranked third in the CFL in total passing yards (1,015) and second in touchdown passes (7). His ratio of seven TDs to two interceptions is best among all starting quarterbacks.
Defence won the day for Winnipeg last week. The Blue Bombers limited Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo to zero touchdowns and one interception. They also held Montreal rushers to just 93 total yards.
Winnipeg will likely lean on running back Brady Oliveira and receiver Dalton Schoen to jumpstart the offence against Calgary. Oliveira leads the CFL with 327 rushing yards and is averaging 81.8 yards per game (second in CFL). Schoen leads the league with 325 receiving yards and has two touchdowns on the year.
