The Toronto Argonauts earned a one-week respite after finally returning to the win column – and now, it’s back to reality as they welcome a red-hot Calgary Stampeders team to BMO Field on Friday night. The Argos throttled the Ottawa Redblacks 46-17 in Week 13 – easily their best showing of the season – but will need to be just as good to handle a Stampeders unit that is riding a three-game winning streak and is coming off a thrilling 19-18 triumph over Hamilton.

The Stampeders opened at -5.5, but the line has been bumped up a point in their favour. But Calgary has made a habit of playing down to inferior competition in recent weeks, having gone just 1-4 ATS in its past five games vs. teams with losing records. That said, Toronto has had the opposite problem, folding against superior opponents: The Argonauts enter Friday’s showdown having gone 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight games against teams above .500.

This game carries the highest total of any Week 15 contest at 53.5, up a half-point from an opener of 53. And these teams are headed in opposite directions when it comes to totals play; the Stampeders have gone below the number in six of their previous eight road games, while the Argonauts are a sizzling 14-4 O/U in their last 18 coming out of a bye. The under has converted in four of the last five meetings between the teams.

Calgary Stampeders

The Stampeders come into Week 15 ranked fourth out of nine teams in points allowed – and they would be much worse off were it not for the sensational play of Tre Roberson. The 26-year-old defensive back has been a one-man wall for Calgary, ranking second in the league with seven interceptions while adding a pair of defensive TDs. And he added to his defensive player-of-the-year case by blocking the Tiger-Cats’ potential go-ahead field goal last week.

Toronto Argonauts

After being mired in a season-long offensive funk, the Argonauts showed off some skills in their final two games prior to their Week 14 bye, scoring a combined 73 points against Hamilton and Ottawa. To put that in proper perspective, they had scored just 151 total points in their first nine games. James Wilder Jr. will need to be a focus of the Calgary defence after he racked up 87 total yards and three touchdowns in the victory over Ottawa.
