Stampeders vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds
CFL Odds and Betting
The Stamps have been a good bounce-back team as they’re 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 after a loss. They have also gone 15-5-1 ATS in their last 22 road games. Keep in mind this series has been very tight as neither side has won by more than six in the last five meetings.
As for the Als, they have failed to cover four straight following an ATS loss and are just 2-6 ATS off a bye week. However, they have covered six straight meetings with Calgary when the meetings have been in Montreal.
Calgary Stampeders
The good news is that the Stampeders offence has come to life. After averaging just 19.5 points per game in their first four contests, the team has scored 74 points in the last two weeks. On the other hand, the defensive play is concerning. After allowing 23.3 through their first four, they’ve also allowed 74 points in the last two weeks.
A big issue continues to be quarterback Jake Maier. The team had high hopes for him after moving on from Bo Levi Mitchell but he’s really held this team back. He’s struggling to complete passes down the field (just 8.2 yards per attempt) and he leads the league in interceptions (nine). Now he’s up against a defence that’s given up 111 points, which is tied for the fewest in the East Division and second-fewest in the CFL. The Stamps will go as Maier goes and until we see him play better, it’s tough to back this team right now.
Montreal Alouettes
The Als come into this game off a much-needed bye week. The team has lost three in a row and needed a reset. While the three-game losing streak looks bad in terms of the record, consider the teams they’ve lost to: the B.C. Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts. Combined, those teams are 15-3. This week’s game should be much more manageable for them.
The Als offence should have a good week given how Calgary’s defence has played of late. The main issue is just keeping quarterback Cody Fajardo upright. He’s been sacked a whopping 26 times already. That’s the most in the CFL. Calgary’s defence is third in sacks at 21, so that could be the x-factor to this contest. Maybe the week off will give the Als the extra time they needed to fix their protection schemes. If so, they should come away with a win here.
