Roughriders vs. Lions Prediction: CFL Week 7 Point Spread, Odds
The Lions enter Week 7 perched atop the West Division standings with a 4-1-0 record, and have outscored visitors by a massive 57-19 overall margin in two home wins to date this season. The Roughriders will be without the services of quarterback Trevor Harris, who suffered a serious leg injury that will sideline him indefinitely in the team’s heartbreaking 33-31 loss to Calgary last weekend. The result put the brakes on a two-game win streak and dumped them to 3-2-0 so far this season.
The Lions have rocketed to 10-point favourites since opening at -8.5, and enjoy the support of 73% of sports bettors. The Riders have faded distant +342 moneyline underdogs on the CFL Week 7 odds, while the total remains unchanged since opening at 45.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
Saturday night’s matchup at BC Place marks the first of three regular season meetings between these West Division rivals this season. The Lions took two of three from Saskatchewan last season to snap an eight-game losing streak in head-to-head action, but have failed to record a home victory over the Riders in five dates since 2017. The total topped 40 just once in last season’s three clashes, powering a 2-0-1 run for the UNDER in totals betting.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
With Trevor Harris on the shelf indefinitely, the Riders will turn over control of their offence to Mason Fine. A two-time Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year while starring under centre with the North Texas Mean Green, Fine served as Cody Fajardo’s backup in his first CFL campaign last season, making two starts late in the season.
Now set to make his first appearance as an undisputed CFL starter, Fine impressed after taking over for Harris, driving the Riders to a pair of late scores to give them a late lead they would eventually relinquish on Calgary’s game-winning field goal with no time remaining.
Close games have been a recurring theme in Saskatchewan this season. Two of the squad’s past three contests have been settled on the last play of the game, and four of their five outings to date have been settled by four or fewer points.
BC Lions
The Lions return to action well-rested after enjoying a bye during Week 6. The squad entered their bye week on a high with a decisive 35-19 win over the visiting Montreal Alouettes, erasing the memory of their dismal performance in a 45-24 loss in Toronto a week earlier in which quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. tossed six interceptions.
However, Adams has been otherwise efficient, tossing for at least 290 yards in four of five games to date to lead the league with 308.0 passing yards per game. That is good news considering top rusher Taquan Mizzell is expected to miss his second straight outing on Saturday.
Mizzell missed the team’s win over Montreal with a knee injury, opening the door for the Shaun Shivers to build on an impressive Lions debut two weeks ago, when he ran for 63 yards and one score in the team’s victory over the Als.
