Roughriders vs. Lions Prediction: CFL Week 6 Point Spread, Odds

The Riders enter the weekend as the CFL’s lone remaining undefeated team after topping the visiting Toronto Argonauts last week by a 30-23 score. The Lions remain neck-and-neck with Saskatchewan in the hunt for the top of the CFL West standings after claiming a 44-28 victory in Hamilton last week that extends their current straight up win streak to four games.

Saskatchewan’s red-hot start has not impressed oddsmakers, who have pegged the Lions as 7.5-point home favourites on the CFL Week 6 odds. The Roughriders trail as +260 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 51.5.

Saturday night’s clash marks the first of two regular season meetings between these CFL West rivals. BC holds an edge in head-to-head action, claiming victory in four of six dates with the Riders including wins in their past two matchups at BC Place.

However, the Lions have emerged as a consistent betting disappointment, going winless against the spread in four straight when facing the Roughriders including three straight ATS defeats while perched as double-digit chalk.

Lots of points have been scored in the two most recent dates between these squads, with the total reaching 59 in both those contests. However, these teams have produced mixed results in totals betting, with the OVER/UNDER going 4-4-1 over their past eight clashes.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Roughriders suffered a massive blow in Week 3, when quarterback Trevor Harris suffered a knee injury that has sidelined him indefinitely. Harris had been enjoying a solid start to the season after seeing his 2023 campaign cut short by injury, tossing for seven touchdowns 872 yards in three appearances before returning to the clinic. But unlike last season, when they played their way out of the playoff hunt with seven straight losses to close the season, the Roughriders responded with a strong performances on both sides of the ball while rolling to a win over the Argos.

With Shea Patterson making his CFL debut under centre, the Riders overcame an early deficit on the strength of Patterson’s first scoring pass and scoring run while the defence did its job by forcing five turnovers. With his CFL debut out of the way, Patterson is worth a look as a -115 bet to top 233.5 passing yards and is a solid +125 bet to score another TD on Sunday.

BC Lions

The Lions have effectively put their opening week meltdown behind them with four straight wins and saw their offence find a higher gear in last week’s 44-28 rout of the Hamilton TigerCats. Overall, this team has averaged 30 points per game during their 4-0-0 run and the lion’s share of the credit has to go to Vernon Adams Jr. The veteran pivot has quickly seized the inside track in the race to claim this year’s Most Outstanding Player honours while piling up league highs with 1,752 passing yards and 11 scoring passes including four touchdowns against the Ti-Cats and has thrown just one pick to date.

However, just three of Adams’ touchdown passes have come on home turf, and faced with an increasingly stingy Rider defence that limited Argos passer Cameron Dukes to just 206 yards and no scores last week, the -115 odds of Adams compiling UNDER 337.5 passing yards may be worth a value bet.
