Roughriders vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 14 Point Spread, Odds

A win for the 7-4 Saskatchewan Roughriders puts them in the driver’s seat when it comes to clinching a home playoff game and a loss for the 2-8 Edmonton Elks eliminates them from playoff competition. This is what’s on the line Friday night, before judging how these teams are performing on the field.

The Roughriders are on a two-game winning streak after a mid-season hiccup, and are now gearing up for the playoffs. Edmonton’s dropped six straight; after going .500 in their first month of action they have since endured a season filled with drama.

Kickoff at Commonwealth Stadium is set for 9:45 p.m. EST.

CFL Odds and Betting

Saskatchewan’s mission this season has been to own field position and the turnover battle. A 37.8-yard average starting field position is second-best in the CFL while they’re second in the league in turnover ratio at +16. Edmonton is near the worst in both categories (29.3-yard average starting field position is last, -17 turnover ratio is second-last), which plays a big role in what’s shaping up to be a Riders rout.

Head-to-head the Riders have covered in six of their last nine against the Elks, and the under is 4-1 in their last five meetings. Saskatchewan is 8-3 to the under this season and Edmonton is 1-5 against the spread at home in 2021.

Saskatchewan a 6-point road favourite to win on the CFL odds, with the total at 46.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Roughriders look rejuvenated and have a defence that’s played with swagger in back-to-back to wins. Last Saturday the unit held Montreal to 14 points and their star running back, William Stanback, to a pedestrian 4.2 yard per carry average. Saskatchewan’s first in interceptions with 14 and second in sacks with 37.

On offence the presumable loss of Kyran Moore (knee injury) will hurt the Riders’ flow, but Cody Fajardo still has Shaq Evans and Duke Williams to throw to. The duo’s been on the quiet side in their games together but both have deep-strike ability at any time. Williams has also recovered onside kicks in both his games with the Riders.

Edmonton Elks

A 39-23 score made last week’s loss better-looking for Edmonton than reality. Hamilton dominated the Elks, who scored 16 of their 23 points in garbage time including two quarterback sneaks. Taylor Cornelius’ offence was unable to find the end zone and Hamilton countered with 539 yards of offence. The Elks allowed 7.9 yards per rush and 14.9 yards per pass in the loss.

Playmakers Greg Ellingson and James Wilder Jr. are also injured and missed practice Tuesday. Aside from those two it’s been a lot of “going through the motions” on offence in Edmonton as they sit eighth in the CFL with 17.1 offensive points per game.
