Roughriders vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 9 Point Spread, Odds
The Elks padded their divisional lead with last week’s narrow 36-34 win in Saskatchewan, extending their current win streak to three games and their overall SU record to 6-1-0 on the season. Last week’s loss leaves the Riders trailing Edmonton by four points in the standing with a game in hand. Overall, Saskatchewan has dropped two of four SU and covered just once in its past four games but have claimed victory in three of four visits to Edmonton.
The Roughriders arrive in Edmonton perched as slim 1.5-point road favourites on the CFL Week 9 odds. The Elks lag as +105 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 59.5.
CFL Week 9 Odds and Betting
The Elks have now taken two straight from the Roughriders including a 27-25 victory when the Riders last visited Edmonton last September. Recent dates between these CFL West rivals have been hard fought, with their past four meetings getting decided by a combined margin of just 11 points. Those close contests have given the Elks a lift at the sportsbook, where they have gone 3-1 ATS in their past four versus Saskatchewan and averaged 31.5 points over their past two clashes, lifting the OVER to 5-2 in the past seven battles between these teams. These teams are also in a battle atop the Grey Cup odds, knotted as +400 co-favourites.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
Despite coming away with a heartbreaking loss, the Riders maintained their high-scoring ways in last week’s home date with the Elks. The team has have now scored 31+ points in five of their six contests this season, leaving them ranked third in the league with 34 points scored per game. Quarterback Trevor Harris has been an ageless wonder. The 40-year-old pivot connected for four TDs and 386 yards in last week’s loss and has tossed multiple TDs in all six games this season for a total of 16. However, Harris has also thrown at least one pick in each of the past four contests. Harris’ favourite target Kian Schaffer-Baker has contributed at a career-best pace. The 28-year-old native of Mississauga, Ontario racked up a season-high 185 receiving yards last week, bring his season total to 656 yards and has made scoring catches in each of the past two games, and four total on the year.
Edmonton Elks
With four of their past victories coming by five or fewer points, the Elks have kept their fans on the edge of their seats. The Elks have seen three of those victories come on the strength of scores in the dying seconds, and have benefitted from the resurgence of quarterback Cody Fajardo. The 34-year-old veteran is coming off a four-TD performance in Saskatchewan in which he tossed for a sensational 510 yards, and has now connected in end zone 10 times over the past four game while avoiding tossing an interception. While TJ Luther emerged as Fajardo’s favourite target, pulling in 10 of 12 passes for 157 yards, it was Austin Mack who captured the spotlight, racking up two TDs and 173 yards on just four catches highlighted by an 81-yard TD reception in the final frame.
