The follow up to the Labour Day classic in the Prairies is the Banjo Bowl in Winnipeg. This game has been a tradition in Winnipeg since 2004. This year it should be extra spicy considering Brett Lauther and the Roughriders “walked it off” last weekend in Regina with a 26-yard field goal to win it 19-17.

CFL Odds and Betting

In 15 previous meetings (Banjo Bowl) the Blue Bombers hold the slight 8-7 lead. There have been some large margins of victory in these game. Back in 2009, the Riders won 55-10, a year later it was the Bombers returning the favour winning 31-2.
All signs point to a Bombers win here in the rematch. First off, the Bombers are perfect at home this season (5-0). Second, they are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games dating back to last year. Finally, over the last two Septembers, the Bombers are 6-2 ATS.
Interestingly enough, the Riders are 0-4 ATS in their last four games in September.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Roughriders continued their dominance over the Bombers on Labour Day, and now have won 14 of the last 15 games against them. The team improved to 7-3 and sit only two points out of first place in the West division, a win would vault them into a tie for first place.
Quarterback Cody Fajardo was 25-of-39 for 300 yards. It was his fourth game this season with 300 or more yards passing. His number one target was Naaman Roosevelt, who had his best game of the season hauling in eight catches for 93 yards.
The Riders had a hard time running the ball against the Bombers, only managing 70 yards total as a team on 11 carries. William Powell led all Riders with eight carries.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Bombers didn’t start the month of September on the right foot but played well enough to win this past Sunday.
Full credit goes to the team’s offensive line who helped guide the Bombers running game to 186 yards versus Saskatchewan and 189 yards in Edmonton. The team will need to improve on its slow start in Regina this past Sunday. The Roughriders held the CFL’s top scoring first quarter team to minus-10 yards through the opening quarter. The team rebounded to  totalled 325 total yards and 21 first downs for the game.
Defensively, the team had success against the Green Riders, registering five sacks in the game.
