The Saskatchewan Roughriders are in battle for home-field position in the CFL’s wild West division, while the Argos are just hoping to get into a playoff position in the East. Odd makers have made the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders the favourites in this game at -3.

Betting Analysis

These two teams opened their 2018 seasons week one in Regina, with the Roughriders gaining a 27-19 win over the visitors. That game was one of two games played this season for All-Star pivot Ricky Ray. The Roughriders are 4-1 (SU) against the Argos in their last five games, but the Argos are 3-2 (SU) in their last five games against Saskatchewan in Toronto. Of note, despite winning their last Saturday game (vs. Winnipeg), the Roughriders are 8-19 ATS in their last 27 Saturday games.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Roughriders are coming off a 30-25 setback to the Ottawa RedBlacks, snapping a four game winning streak. That game was the first time in a long time that the defence (the team’s key strength) wasn’t able to bail out the offence. Heading into the game, the Green Riders were top two in sacks (29), forced fumbles (31), interceptions (13), and turnover ratio (+10). The team failed to register a sack, turnover, or forced fumble in that game. For the first time this season the team allowed a 100+ yard rusher, 100+ receiver, and a 300+ yard passer in a single game.

Quarterback Zach Collaros makes his return to Toronto once again to play against the franchise that brought him into the CFL. Collaros has had his struggles as of late, going 23/51, 355 yards, only one touchdown, and four interceptions in the last two games.

Toronto Argonauts

The Argos completed their third and final bye of the 2018 season.  The Boatmen are trying to snap a three game losing streak and gain their first win since August 18 (vs. B.C. 24-23)/ Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson is expected to get the start, his sixth straight since replacing the ineffective James Franklin. After starting his CFL career with two straight wins, he has now lost three straight games (2-3 career). The leash could be short in this game if Bethel-Thompson doesn’t produce, as Franklin is looking for his starting job back.

It should be interesting to see how much Head Coach Marc Trestman uses all-star Duron Carter. Carter joined the double blue three weeks ago, but saw limited action in the team’s last game. By now it is likely he has learned the entire playbook, and what better team to start against then the one (Roughriders) that cut him loose just over a month ago.
