Roughriders vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 10 Point Spread, Odds
The Roughriders and Alouettes are both coming off wins last week as they prepare to meet in Montreal on Friday night. Saskatchewan used a late field goal to slip past Ottawa 26-24, while the Als’ strong second half helped them pound Hamilton 27-14.
Montreal opened as a 4.5-point favourite to win on the CFL odds, with the total sitting at 44.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
These teams split a pair of games last season, with the home team earning blowout victories. The first game finished six points over the total and the second game finished 15 points over the number. Saskatchewan has won five of the last six head-to-heads.
The Riders are an even 4-4 straight up for the season, including 2-2 on the road. They’ve been a much better cover option on the road, going 3-1 against the spread outside of Mosaic Stadium compared to 1-3 ATS at home. Saskatchewan has split the Over/Under evenly this season.
Montreal comes into Week 10 with a 4-3 record overall, including 2-2 at home. They’ve covered in four of seven games, including two of four at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Dating to last season, the total has gone Under in eight of the Alouettes last nine home games.
Saskatchewan enters Week 10 at +1500 to win the Grey Cup, tied with Hamilton and ahead of only Ottawa (+1900) and winless Edmonton (+19,500). Montreal has the fourth-best Grey Cup odds at +1000.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
Last week’s victory helped move the Riders to third place in the West Division, trailing Winnipeg and B.C., which are both 6-2. Calgary lags at 3-5, while Edmonton’s season is all but done at 0-8.
Kicker Brett Lauther was the hero against Ottawa, winning the game with a 54-yard field goal in the dying seconds. Quarterback Mason Fine finished 23-of-37, throwing for 296 yards and a touchdown. It was Fine’s first win since taking over starting duties following Trevor Harris’ knee injury in Week 6. Fine will be the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future as Harris isn’t expected back anytime soon. Through four games, the 26-year old Fine has thrown for 998 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions.
Running back Jamal Morrow pounded in one touchdown on the ground last week, but there are still serious concerns about Saskatchewan’s rushing offence. The Roughriders average just 83.8 rushing yards per game, the third-worst mark in the league. The strength of this offence is the passing game as they rank second in the CFL in both total average yards per game (381) and passing yards per game (297.2).
Montreal Alouettes
Montreal sits second in the East Division with a 4-3 record, but they’ll have a tough time catching 6-1 Toronto. They also have Hamilton and Ottawa hot in their heels, with matching 3-5 records.
The Alouettes used a late surge to get the job done against Hamilton last week. Trailing 11-3 at the half, Montreal scored 24 straight points in the second half, outscoring Hamilton 18-0 in the fourth quarter. Cody Fajardo finished 19-of-25, throwing for 318 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Fajardo ranks third in the CFL with 1,877 passing yards. He has thrown six touchdowns and five interceptions.
William Stanback finished last week with 106 rushing yards and remains the biggest piece of Montreal’s ground attack. Stanback has accumulated 416 rushing yards this season, but has still not punched in a touchdown. That speaks to the Als’ middling offence, which ranks fourth in total yards per game (361.9), fourth in rushing yards per game (96.1) and fourth in passing yards per game (265.7).
