RedBlacks vs. Stampeders CFL Week 16 Betting Odds, Picks: Dedrick Mills questionable with injury

The last of a lighter weekend of CFL Week 16 action concludes Saturday night with not exactly the best crossover matchup of the season between last-place teams Ottawa and Calgary.

The Stampeders are 8.5-point favourites on the CFL odds, biggest of the week, with a total of 62.5 points.

CFL Odds and Betting

Really nothing to see here regarding Ottawa other than the Redblacks trying to avoid the embarrassment of a winless season as they sit last in the East Division at 0-12. The Redblacks have scored the CFL’s fewest points by far with 270 and only Calgary has allowed more than Ottawa’s 439.

The Stampeders’ playoff hopes aren’t dead sitting last in the West Division at 5-8 as they are only two back of B.C. and Winnipeg. Calgary is among the league’s best offensive teams but can’t stop anyone. It has been better away (3-3) than at home (2-5).

Saturday is the first meeting of the season between the clubs, and they turn right around and face off again next Saturday at TD Place Stadium. The Redblacks have won the past five in the series, including 20-12 in Calgary last year. It was a very wet day at McMahon Stadium for that one and all the points came via kicks/safety except for Ottawa running back Daniel Adeboboye breaking free for a 57-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter that led to his 7-yard TD reception. The Redblacks defence forced Calgary into five turnovers, including a crucial stop on P.J. Walker on a goal-line try.

Ottawa RedBlacks

The Redblacks were +9.5 last Saturday at rival Toronto and nearly got that first win but came up just short, 26-23. Lirim Hajrullahu hit a 29-yard walk off field-goal winner for the Argos. They took over at their own 14-yard line with 2:25 remaining.

Ottawa coach Ryan Dinwiddie opted to replace struggling QB Jake Maier for veteran McLeod Bethel-Thompson midway through the second quarter. Bethel-Thompson completed 16-of-23 passes for 191 yards and a TD and is expected to be the starter this week after taking most first-team reps in practice.

Maier, brought over from Saskatchewan on the offseason to be the starter, was benched after three consecutive two-and-outs and finished the game 7-of-10 passing for 42 yards. He had started every game this year.

Top running back Greg Bell is questionable after missing practice Tuesday.

Ottawa has lost 18 straight games overall, a modern-day CFL record. The overall record of 25 in a row was set by the Ottawa Senators/Rough Riders from 1928-32.

Calgary Stampeders

Calgary was a 3.5-point underdog at Edmonton last Saturday and got curb-stomped, 53-16, in a second straight loss – both to the Elks. In this defeat, the Stampeders had five turnovers that led to 20 Edmonton points.

Calgary was outscored an embarrassing 34-6 in the second half. It was the fifth time in team history that Edmonton has scored 50 or more against Calgary, the last in 1991.

“We’re in a lull right now,” said Calgary linebacker Marquel Lee after.

QB Vernon Adams Jr. was 10 of 19 passing for 142 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions before being pulled late in the third for Josh Lowe. Adams’ yardage total was a season low and he doubled his season total of picks.

Wideout Reggie Begelton returned from a lengthy leg injury and played the first time since June 14, 2025. He had two catches for 25 yards.

Top tailback Dedrick Mills was held to three carries for 20 yards and suffered a hip injury that kept Mills out of practice Tuesday, so consider him questionable. He’s second in the league with 943 yards rushing.
