The Redblacks hit the road after dropping a 34-31 decision to the visiting BC Lions last week, dumping their straight up record to 0-3-0. The Roughriders are coming off a decisive 41-20 win over Montreal in Week 4 that extended their current win streak on home turf to four games and improved their overall record to 3-1-0 this season.

Despite their recent home success, the Riders are backed by just 33% of sports bettors, and have faded to 6-point favourites since opening at -7.5. In addition to sporting -115 odds of covering the spread, the Redblacks are pegged as a +192 moneyline bet to claim the outright victory in Friday’s contest. The total has made slight gains since opening at 45.0, climbing to 45.5, with the OVER attracting 96% of the betting action.

CFL Odds and Betting

Friday night’s matchup at Mosaic Stadium marks the first and only regular season meeting between these teams this year. The Riders look to this CFL Week 4 clash riding a two-game straight up and against the spread win streak against Ottawa, capped by a 23-10 victory as 10-point home chalk when the Redblacks visited Saskatchewan last summer.

In addition to outscoring the RedBlacks by a wide total margin of 63-28 over their two past meetings, the Roughriders have also won and covered in six of 10 meetings with Ottawa. The Riders have also dominated Ottawa in contests where they are favoured by six or more points, covering six times during an impressive 8-1-0 run. And while last season’s lone date proved to be somewhat low scoring, these two teams have typically combined to rack up big point totals. The Riders and Redblacks topped 50 points in each of their previous six meetings, furling a 5-1-0 run for the OVER in totals betting.

Ottawa RedBlacks

After stumbling out of the gate in last weekend’s home date with BC, the Riders embarked on a furious second-half rally. However, it proved to be too little, too late, as the squad closed things out with a third straight loss to open their schedule, and their 14th defeat in 17 contests since the beginning of last season.

The Redblacks defence showed some signs of life after recess, intercepting Nathan Rourke on two occasions and recovering a fumble by the Lions quarterback. However, the offence marched inside the Riders 20-yard line just once in the first half. And with the Redblacks offensive line struggling to contain the Lions defence, quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was limited to just 162 passing yards, and was held out of the end zone for a second time in three appearances.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Riders atoned for their 37-13 Week 3 loss in Montreal by thrashing the Alouettes in last week’s 41-20 home win. The victory extends what has been an impressive offensive run on home turf, with this club now averaging over 30 points per game during a 5-1-0 run at Mosaic Stadium.

While Saskatchewan endured somewhat of a slow start, spotting Montreal a 13-11 halftime lead, Cody Fajardo took over in the second half. The Riders pivot ran for one score before connecting on a pair of touchdown passes to quickly put the game out of reach, and has now connected on 10 scoring passes over his past six home appearances.
