RedBlacks vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 12 Point Spread, Odds

The Elks return home on a high after rolling to a decisive 30-12 win in Ottawa last weekend, but have work to do to snap a 12-game slide on home turf. Generating offence has remained a challenge for the RedBlacks, who fell to 1-9-0 with last week’s defeat.

The Elks have held steady since opening as 3-point home favourites on the CFL odds, but with the backing of 93 per cent of sport bettors, Edmonton has improved to a -115 bet to cover that spread. The RedBlacks look to Saturday’s contest as +140 underdogs. The total is also unchanged since opening at 48.5, with the UNDER attracting a slender 52 per cent majority of the betting action.

CFL Odds and Betting

Saturday night’s matchup at Commonwealth Stadium marks the second and final regular season meeting between these teams. The Elks have held the edge in recent head-to-head meetings, six of the past nine. However, they have consistently disappointed loyal sports bettors, with last week’s win marking the first time they have covered the spread when facing Ottawa in five meetings since 2018.

Low scoring has been commonplace when these teams square off. The total has topped 50 just once in their past five clashes, extending a steady run for the UNDER, which has gone 14-4-0 in 18 matchups between these teams since 2005. Averaging a league-worst 18.6 points per game this season, the RedBlacks have covered in just three of nine outings to date. All of those against the spread wins have all come on the road. However, the RedBlacks have managed to stay within three points of their opponents in just one of their eight losses this season.

Ottawa RedBlacks

It was tough to really gauge the state of this RedBlacks squad prior to last week’s date with Edmonton, but the Elks’ sheer dominance after halftime as they romped to a 30-12 win certainly cements their position as the league’s doormat. Ottawa has now mustered just 15 total points over their past two contests, and generated just six total scoring passes this season. A shakeup under centre did little to spark the offence last weekend, with Nick Arbuckle generating just 85 passing yards and no scores after entering the game in relief of Caleb Evans.

Edmonton Elks

Last week’s visit to Ottawa proved to be a tonic for the Elks, who suffered defeats by double-digit margins in each of their three prior outings. In fact, until last week, Edmonton struggled badly to contain opposing offences, allowing an average of almost 37 points per game in their previous five contests. Elks pivot Taylor Cornelius turned in a steady outing last week, particularly after halftime. Cornelius connect for 208 passing yards and two touchdowns while also scrambling for 47 yards. Kenny Lawler also made his fifth scoring catch of the season, and has now average 82.2 receiving yards over his past five outings. However, with the Elks averaging just 16.5 points per game during their current 0-12-0 run at home, Edmonton fans should not hold their breath awaiting a big offensive outburst.
