It’s not must watch television when two 3-13 teams meet late in the regular season. Both the Redblacks and Argos are patiently waiting for the disastrous 2019 season to end, and an off season that will likely see many changes for both Ontario franchises.

CFL Odds and Betting

The Argos will be looking for the season sweep when they meet the Redblacks on Saturday. In the two previous games, the Boatmen have outscored the Redblacks 74-38, with McLeod Bethel-Thompson over 700 yards passing in the two games combined.

Ottawa is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games, but dating back two years, they have had some success in the month of October going 10-4 in the last 14 games.

The Argos are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games against East division opponents.

Ottawa RedBlacks

The Redblacks enter this game on a massive nine game losing streak. Head Coach Rick Campbell continues to evaluate his talent throughout his roster.

Quarterback Will Arndt is one of those players getting an extra look, and he is expected to make his third CFL start this weekend. Last week he was 17-of-30 for 112 yards and zero touchdowns. He faced the Argos a couple weeks back (October 11) and had his best professional start going 28-of-42 for 288 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw three interceptions.

Another player getting a chance for the Redblacks is local product (Orleans, Ontario) Brendan Gillanders. The former Ottawa Gee-Gees Running back carried the ball eight times for 50 yards last week against the Tiger-Cats.

Toronto Argonauts

The Argos enter this game after a 27-24 loss to the Alouettes. They are 2-5 in their last seven games, and will not see the post season.

The game plan for the Argos will be all about Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson. Despite the poor season for his team, statistically, he’s been very good. Bethel-Thompson is coming off a 35-of-45 effort for 342 yards and two touchdowns against Montreal. He now sits third in league passing with 3826 yards and is only 71 yards away for the number one yardage passer Mike Reilly in BC, who is currently on IR. MBT also leads the CFL in touchdown passes with 24.

The Argos have three receivers listed in the CFL’s top 15, with Derel Walker leading the way with 1040 yards receiving. He is followed by SJ Green in 12th place with 980 yards and Armanti Edwards in 14th with 826 yards. Realistically, it is not impossible to think that the team could have three 1000 yard receivers at the end of year. Perhaps this is something to build on when looking at the long off season ahead.
