RedBlacks vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 12 Point Spread, Odds
On paper, it appears to be one of the mismatches of the 2026 CFL regular season to kick off Week 12 on Thursday night as the East last-place and winless Ottawa Redblacks visit division-leading and one-loss Montreal. The Alouettes are -12.5 on the CFL odds and a total of 62.5 points.
CFL Odds and Betting
Will we see a bigger spread the rest of the season than the 12.5 Thursday from Montreal? Considering the Alouettes have the best record in the league; are home; Grey Cup favourites (+190); and quarterback Davis Alexander, the CFL Most Outstanding Player favourite at -170, is healthy, that’s doubtful. A Redblacks win certainly would be one of the biggest regular-season upsets in recent years. But most likely any realistic chance at that first victory will be next Sunday at home vs. B.C.
Thursday concludes the season series with Montreal up 2-0. The Als were nearly stunned at home in Week 5, escaping 37-35, so you know they won’t take Ottawa for granted in this one. Redblacks QB Jake Maier nearly led an amazing comeback, while Alexander threw for 345 yards and two scores. Montreal was a 9.5-point favourite then and was -6.5 at Ottawa in Week 9 when it cruised, 34-13. Alexander was great again with 420 yards and three scores. It was the Als’ 13th straight over the Redblacks, a streak dating to October 2022.
Montreal is 7-1 ATS in its past eight home games.
Ottawa RedBlacks
I projected Ottawa to lose 32-25 at Winnipeg last Friday and wasn’t far off with the Blue Bombers prevailing 33-21. Jake Maier was solid in defeat like usual, throwing for 314 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. It was Maier’s fourth straight game with at least 300 yards.
The Redblacks defence had four sacks but didn’t force a turnover. Winnipeg had that pick and added a turnover on Ottawa downs.
The Redblacks, who have lost three straight games by double digits, are the 10th team to start a season 0-9, and of course none of the previous ones reached the playoffs. The record for most defeats to open a campaign is 11 by the 1981 Toronto Argonauts.
Ottawa has lost 15 consecutive games dating to last season, setting a modern CFL record for longest losing streak. So perhaps not a shock Monday that team president Adrian Sciarra stepped down/was forced out.
Montreal Alouettes
It is so tough to see Montreal having much trouble here considering it enters rested and healthy off a Week 11 bye; is unbeaten at home; has won six games in a row overall; has the CFL’s top quarterback in Davis Alexander (league-leading 3,140 yards, only two picks), top wideout in Tyson Philpot (his 74 catches, 1,154 yards and seven TDs all lead the league), and certainly one of its best running backs in Travis Theis (third in CFL with 700 yards rushing).
Jason Maas is the clear CFL Coach of the Year leader. He gave up play-calling duties this offseason to offensive coordinator Anthony Calvillo, and it has worked wonders. Montreal hosted an excellent Edmonton club in Week 10 and the Elks entered having allowed the league’s fewest offensive points. The Als hung 48 total in the easy win. They are 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall.
