RedBlacks vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds

The Alouettes were on the wrong end of a 41-10 rout at the hands of the Tiger-Cats back on June 28, but they’ve looked impressive since and are coming off a well-deserved rest week following a 20-10 home win over Saskatchewan.

CFL Odds and Betting

The Alouettes are heavy favorites in oddsmakers’ eyes, and with good reason. They trounced the Redblacks 36-19 in Ottawa in the previous meeting between the teams back in Week 6, and have outscored opponents 92-58 over the course of their three-game winning streak. And Montreal has been a red-hot cover option, going 8-1 ATS in its last nine games vs. East Division foes and 13-3 against the spread in its previous 16 contests overall.

The total for this one has dipped to 53 after opening at 54.5. And given the solid under trends that both teams bring to the table, that number might slip further prior to game time. Ottawa is 4-1 to the under in its last five road games, while Montreal is 7-2 in favor of the under in its previous nine games following a straight-up win. But the most eye-popping trend: these teams have put together seven consecutive unders in their head-to-head history.

Ottawa RedBlacks

Fans are still seething over the Redblacks’ decision to accept a safety rather than punt late in their eventual 17-16 loss to the Calgary Stampeders last time out. But Ottawa’s problems ran much deeper than that one play call: the club hasn’t scored 20 or more points in any game during its four-game losing skid, and managed just 13 first downs in the loss to the Stampeders; Calgary, by comparison, had 27. The Redblacks rank eighth out of nine teams in scoring.

Montreal Alouettes

The Alouettes haven’t won four consecutive games since the 2014 season – but they look like a team ready to end that drought. After getting torched for 71 points and 1,137 total yards in back-to-back losses to open the season, Montreal has held its previous three opponents to 58 total points 1,177 total yards. And most importantly to bettors, the Alouettes have been one of the league’s top cover options, having gone 4-1 ATS through the first five games of 2019.
