CFL Week 5 Odds and Betting
For the second time in three weeks, the Tiger-Cats let a fourth-quarter lead slip away in last week’s 24-22 defeat in Ottawa. Hamilton now sits deadline in points allowed this season and has particularly struggled after recess while surrendering an average of 17.3 second-half points during its 0-4 start. The Ti-Cats’ woes extend to home field, where they have lost six of their past eight contests. However, they have still shown steady improvement at Tim Hortons Field, with their two most recent wins coming by a combined margin of just six points. Hamilton has also lost two of three to the Lions, but have gone 2-0-1 against the spread over that stretch and are enjoying a 4-1 SU run when the Lions come to town. The Lions needed a field goal with time expiring to eke out another narrow win in last week’s triumph over the Elks. The team has built their current 3-0 run on fourth-quarter rallies and have seen their two most recent wins come by a combined margin of just five points.
BC Lions
Vernon Adams Jr. showed no ill effects of an early-season injury while turning in another dominating performance against Edmonton. The 31-year-old veteran quarterback connected on 27 of 38 pass attempts for 331 yards and one score, and added 33 rushing yards while locking up CFL top offensive player honours for the month of June. Adams now enters the weekend as league leader with 1369 passing yards and has connected on seven touchdown passes while tossing just one pick. Adams has enjoyed some steady success in two meetings with Hamilton last season, throwing for 624 yards and three scores. Adams has also developed strong chemistry with receiver Alexander Hollins, who leads the league with 457 yards and tops the CFL player props as a -165 bet to find the end zone on Sunday.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Opening their schedule with on a losing streak has become somewhat of an annual tradition for the Ti-Cats, who have kicked off each of their past four seasons with multiple losses. While it is easy to hang the goat horns on Bo Levi Mitchell for failing to generate more offence, the Hamilton quarterback has done his part while tossing for 1297 yards and a league-high eight touchdowns. However, Mitchell also shares the league lead with five interceptions, and must getting picked by a Lions pass defence that recorded two interceptions in last week’s win over Edmonton. The Tiger-Cats must also find a way to kickstart a moribund ground game that has averaged just 42.7 rushing yards over the past three weeks and produced just two one-yard scoring runs if they are to counter a red-hot Lions squad that is bringing it on defence.
