Lions vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds

Week 8 of the CFL season concludes Saturday night with what Sports Interaction oddsmakers project as the biggest mismatch of the weekend as Calgary is an 11.5-point home favourite against the BC Lions.

CFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

This is easily the biggest spread of Week 8 and also by far the biggest that the BC Lions have been underdogs this year. It’s not Calgary’s biggest number as the Stamps were -19.5 two weeks ago against Montreal (and failed to cover). Early betting action leaning Calgary minus the points as well as on the over 51 points for the total. On the moneyline, the Stamps are -525 and the Lions +400.

In the race to 10 points, Calgary is -286 and BC +200. First team to score, the Stampeders are -227 with a touchdown at +235. The Lions at +160 to take the early lead and a touchdown is +475. On the winning margin prop, Calgary by 13-18 points (+400), 19-24 points (+450), 7-12 points (+450) and 25-30 points (+650) are all favoured over BC by 1-6 points (+800).

The Lions haven’t covered the past four meetings in this series, while the under has hit in six of the past eight. The clubs will play again Week 18 at McMahon Stadium and then close the regular season against one another at BC Place.

BC Lions

The Lions (2-3) are last in the West Division and have scored the fewest points (108) but also have played at least one fewer game than every division foe as they were off last week. BC is looking for its first road victory. The Lions entered the bye week off a 29-25 loss at Ottawa but did cover the 6.5-point spread. BC was blown out in its other two away games. The team is hoping to get top running back Jeremiah Johnson back for this one after he missed the RedBlacks’ game with an ankle injury. Brandon Rutley had 91 rushing yards and a touchdown in his debut as the featured back in Johnson’s place before leaving in the second half with a knee injury that turned out to be an ACL tear. He has been placed on the six-game injury list. BC is 2-7 ATS in its past nine road games.

Calgary Stampeders

The Grey Cup almost seems a formality with how much better Calgary (6-0) looks to be than everyone else. The Stamps are second in the league in points (179) and first by a mile in points allowed (68) and have won every game by double digits. They prevailed 34-22 last week, leading 24-0 after a quarter, at Saskatchewan behind three touchdown passes from Bo Levi Mitchell. The 6-0 start is Calgary’s best since 1995. It would reach the Grey Cup that year but lose to Baltimore – yep, there used to be American teams in the CFL. That was the only time a USA club won the Grey Cup. Calgary is 5-1 ATS in its past six games following a victory.
