Toronto was the only other club to not play Week 1 but the Argos were set for their opener on Friday night, so the Lions and Roughriders are the last clubs to take the field. You can bet on the series line, with B.C. at -145 and Saskatchewan +114. That the Lions win two of the three is a +125 favourite, while a Roughriders sweep is the +850 longshot.
Last season, they met four times with the last in the Western Final at Mosaic Stadium. Saskatchewan rallied from a 21-14 fourth-quarter deficit to win 24-21 and reach its first Grey Cup Final since 2013 – the Riders then beat Montreal for the title. Quarterback Trevor Harris threw two touchdown passes in the win over B.C., including the winner to Tommy Nield with 11 seconds left in the game. In the 2025 regular season, Saskatchewan took two of three in the series and split at home.
The Roughriders were West Division champions last year with 12 regular-season victories, most in the CFL, and are set at over-under 9.5 this year. B.C. finished second in the West with 11 wins and is set at 10.5. The clubs play again Weeks 12 and 17 at B.C. The Roughriders are 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings overall.
BC Lions
The Lions split their two preseason games, losing by 18 at home to Edmonton and winning by 11 at Winnipeg. Quarterback Nathan Rourke was the 2025 CFL Most Outstanding Player (and Most Outstanding Canadian) and a +340 favourite to repeat. Rourke for a career-high 5,290 yards and 31 touchdowns while rushing for 564 yards to lead all quarterbacks as well as 10 touchdowns. The TD throws by the Victoria native were the second-most in a single season by a Canadian after Russ Jackson’s 33 set in 1969.
Wideout Keon Hatcher led the CFL with 1,688 receiving yards and 102 receptions. The Lions led the CFL in both red zone trips (65) and red zone touchdowns (43) in 2025. Also back is defensive lineman Mathieu Betts, who last year became the first Canadian to win CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player for a second time. Betts led the league with 15 sacks. The under is 4-2 in the Lions’ past six in this series.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
For the first time, Saskatchewan and its opponent will both begin their regular seasons in Week 2. The Roughriders, who previously had a Week 1 bye in 1978 and 2016, were hit hard by free agency and retirements with only about 70 per cent of players from last year’s Grey Cup championship club back – the team will unveil its fifth all-time Grey Cup banner prior to kickoff. The offence is largely back intact.
We mentioned QB Trevor Harris above, while AJ Ouellette posted the league’s second-best rushing-yardage total (1,222) last season, and Jermarcus Hardrick was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman. The defence lost four starters. One of them, the retired Micah Johnson, is now coaching the defensive line. Saskatchewan has a 9-4 record in season openers against B.C. all-time but is 1-3-1 ATS in its past five at home overall.
