Lions vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds
The Elks eked out a narrow against the spread win as 15-point underdogs in last week’s 28-14 loss in Winnipeg, and now ride a 11-game overall losing streak, dating back to September of last year. The Lions are vying for a third straight win after topping Saskatchewan 19-9 last week, and have now held opponents to single-digit point totals in three of their past five outings.
The Lions have faded to 8-point favourites since opening as 8.5-point chalk on the CFL Week 8 odds. The total has also been in decline, dipping to 42.5 since opening at 43.5.
Lions vs. Els Betting Odds
Saturday night’s matchup at Commonwealth Stadium marks the second of three scheduled meetings between these teams this season. The Lions rolled to a decisive 22-0 win when the Elks visited BC Place last month, and have now won and covered in five straight head-to-head clashes. All five of those victories have been lopsided, with the Lions holding Edmonton to just 10.6 points per game while claiming victory by an average margin of 29.6 points in those contests.
BC Lions
The Lions seized an early lead and leaned on a stingy defense in their 19-9 win over the Roughriders. But the win came at great cost, with quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. suffering a knee injury that will sideline him indefinitely. Dane Evans is expected to step into the starter’s role on Saturday after tossing for 219 yards, one score, and pick after taking over the offence following Adams’ injury. Evans developed speedy chemistry with Keon Hatcher, who set team highs with four catches and 74 yards against Saskatchewan while Dominique Rhymes recorded just two yards on one catch. However, Rhymes recorded 63 and one score versus Edmonton last month.
Edmonton Elks
What more can be said about the Elks, who will make another attempt to end an epic losing streak on home turf that now sits at 20 games. But surprisingly, the Lions only account for just one of those wins, a 31-14 rout last October, and were the last team to suffer a loss in Edmonton back in October 2019. The team sits dead last in points score and allowed, and the ground game has particularly struggled, generating just two total scoring runs to date. Last week’s loss in Winnipeg proved to be another outing for quarterback Taylor Cornelius, who went just 17-for-29 for 220 yards, one score, and one pick, and has completed just 51% of pass attempts in the past two games.
