Lions vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 6 Point Spread, Odds

The Elks and Lions may be at the bottom of the CFL’s West Division standings, but both teams should be riding high after Week 5 victories. Edmonton is now 1-3 on the year following a 39-33 shootout victory against Ottawa, while BC improved to 2-3 with a 21-20 win in Montreal.

The Lions are 3.5-point favourites to win on the CFL odds, with the total pegged at 50.5.

It’s been all BC in head-to-head action, with the Leos winning nine of the last 10 matchups. That includes a Week 1 meeting this season, with BC trouncing Edmonton 31-14 at home.

With losing records, it’s not surprising that both teams are below .500 when it comes to covering the spread this season. Historically, you might want to lean Lions on Sunday as they’ve covered in eight of the last 10 head-to-heads.

Lower scoring games have been a trend when BC and Edmonton meet. In fact, the Week 1 result continued a trend that has seen six of the last seven meetings between the teams finish Under the total.

Oddsmakers don’t have much faith in either team. The Elks have the longest Grey Cup odds at +10,000 on the CFL futures board and the Lions have the second-longest odds at +1150. However, with Nathan Rourke back under centre, you might want to grab BC at that price while you still can.

BC Lions

Nathan Rourke made his return to the Lions lineup last week after missing the previous two games with an oblique injury. It was a solid return for the 27-year-old, who completed 22 of 36 pass attempts for 352 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also added 43 yards and a score on the ground. Circle your Rourke props for Week 6 as he torched the Elks for 324 passing yards, three TDs and no interceptions in Week 1.

Something to watch for ahead of this week’s game is possible discipline stemming from a brawl that broke out following BC’s walk-off win in Montreal. Lions linebacker Kemoko Turay and Alouettes defensive lineman Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund appeared to be at the centre of the brawl, but it drew in multiple players from both teams, including some not in uniform. Turay recorded his second sack of the season in the win.

Edmonton Elks

Tre Ford and Justin Rankin led Edmonton to a much-needed first win of the season last week against Ottawa. Ford completed 15 of 17 pass attempts, tossing for 212 yards and two TDs. Rankin led the team in both rushing yards (105) and receiving yards (69), recording a touchdown each in the air and on the ground.

The biggest issue offensively for Edmonton is the passing attack, which averages the least amount of passing yards per game (218.8) this season. A bigger issue could be on the other side of the ball, however, as the Elks are allowing a league-worst 34.5 points per game. Edmonton is getting torched through the air, giving up 323.8 passing yards per game, while the next closest team only allows just over 279 passing yards per game. That’s spells disaster against a quarterback like Nathan Rourke.
