Lions vs. Argonauts Prediction: CFL Week 4 Point Spread, Odds

The Lions dominated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at IG Field last week with a 30-6 win. At this point, it’s hard to argue against them being at the top of most people’s power rankings. The Argos have surprised to the upside so far this season. They’ve easily covered the spread the oddsmakers have put in front of them in the first two weeks. This will be their toughest test to date, though, so how will they fare?
BC is currently a -2.5 favourite on the CFL odds. The total is set at 47.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

The Lions have been quite reliable in road contests of late as they’ve gone 13-6 ATS in their last 19 away games. Oddly enough, though, Monday games have been an adventure for them. They are just 1-6 ATS in their last seven games on the day.

As for the Argos, they’ve covered four straight and are 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight against teams with a winning record. Note that under has done well in this series as it’s 25-10 in the last 35 meetings and 17-4 in the last 21 meetings in Toronto.

BC Lions

The Lions are flying high after not only picking up a win against the Blue Bombers last week but flat-out dominating them. It’s not often – at least in the last couple of seasons – that we’ve seen the Blue Bombers get smoked like that. Winnipeg mustered just six points and eight first downs.

This Lions defence has been stellar this season, giving up just 21 points so far, which is the fewest in the league. They had a sack-fest last week, dropping Blue Bombers quarterbacks seven times, and will be gunning for Chad Kelly this week. Kelly has played well in many respects but the stats don’t look great. He’s completing just 58.7% of his passes with one touchdown and two picks. He could be in for a rough outing.

While the Argos 2-0 start is cute and all, there are some questions as to who they’ve played. They beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Edmonton Elks. Those teams are a combined 0-6 so far. They’re in for a rude awakening against this ferocious Lions defence.

Toronto Argonauts

For a third straight week, it feels like the Argonauts are flying under the radar. They were somehow a home underdog in Week 1 against the Tiger-Cats, many thought that the Elks had a chance to pull an upset in Week 2 and now they’re again a dog at home in Week 3. Maybe it’s time they start getting some credit for being a legit squad?

Even if the jury is still out on Kelly, the Argos defence has looked crisp. While they’ve allowed 45 points on the season – the third-best mark in the league – a lot of that has come in garbage time when they’ve been up big. They allowed 14 to Hamilton in the fourth quarter in Week 2 and 14 to the Elks in the final frame of Week 3.

The key for the Argos this week will be to give Kelly a clean pocket. The Leos lead the league in sacks with 11 while Kelly has been sacked just once, the fewest in the CFL. This is a strength-on-strength showdown. If Kelly has time to work, the Argos might improve to 3-0 after Monday’s game. If he gets roughed up, the Argos are likely to be on the end of their first loss of the season.
