Cellar dwellers meet in la belle province Friday evening. Surprisingly, both teams enter this game on winning streaks, but with some uncertainty at the quarterback position. Odds makers have pencilled in the visiting Lions as slight favourites at -3.5

Betting Analysis

With their 26-14 win against the Redblacks Friday night, the Lions improved to 4-1 on home turf for the season, but the same cannot be said about their record on the road. In five starts away from B.C. Place this season, the Lions are 0-5, and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games overall. Head-to-head the Lions are 29-9 ATS against the Alouettes in their last 38 meetings.

BC Lions

The Lions enter this game with question marks at the quarterback position. Starter Travis Lulay left last week’s game in the second quarter against the Redblacks. The team announced after the game that the veteran pivot was placed in concussion protocol. One time starter, now back-up Jonathan Jennings played well in relief, as he was 10 for 12, for 68 yards and a touchdown. He will start this Friday’s game if Lulay is unable to go.

The Lions will be relying on Collins Jr. moving forward, especially with the recent injury to Emmanuel Arceneaux. On defence, the combination of Odell Willis and Shawn Lemon continues to empress. Willis recorded three sacks against the Redblacks, and is now second in the CFL behind Charleston Hughes of the Roughriders. While Lemon has six sacks in five games, since moving to the west coast in an in-season trade with the Argos. Of note, running back Chris Rainey is expected back in the line-up for this game, after being benched last week.

Montreal Alouettes

Despite being in last place in the entire league, the Alouettes enter this game on a modest two-game winning streak, including a 21-11 win over the Ottawa Redblacks, where the team was a 16.5 point underdog. Quarterback Johnny Manziel was not at Alouettes’ practice Monday afternoon; the team said he was suffering from the flu. Manziel took second-team reps on Sunday, and is 0-2 in two games as the Alouettes starter.

Antonio Pipkin will remain the team’s starter going into this Friday’s game. Pipkin is 2-1 in three games under center. Head Coach Mike Sherman confirmed Pipkin will start this week “He’s the guy this week. We take it week by week. Hopefully, he’ll keep developing and other quarterbacks will develop.”
