It’s one of the marquee games of the CFL regular season to kick off a Labour Day doubleheader as the Eskimos and Stampeders meet for the first time. Calgary is just over a touchdown favourite at Sports Interaction.

Betting Analysis

As good as Calgary is, there are two bigger favourites this week: Hamilton (vs. Toronto) and Ottawa (vs. Montreal). On the moneyline, the Stampeders are -315 and the Eskimos +255. About even action on the total of 52.5 points.

On the race to 10 points, Calgary is -182 and Edmonton +135, For the first team to score, the Stamps are -161 with a touchdown at +270. The Eskimos are +115 with a touchdown at +400. On the winning margin prop, Stamps by 7-12 points (+325), 1-6 points (+450) and 13-18 points (+450) are all favoured over Edmonton by 1-6 (+600). A 10-point Esks win would pay out $1,000 on a $100 bet at Sports Interaction.

It’s the first of two regular-season meetings between the top teams in the West Division, with Calgary visiting Commonwealth Stadium next week. If the Stamps win both, the division race is likely over. Last year, the clubs played four times, including the West Final. Edmonton’s lone win was at home in Week 19.

Edmonton Eskimos

We projected a cover for Edmonton last week as a 3.5-point underdog at Hamilton, and the Esks (6-4) did cover but lost 25-24 on a Lirim Hajrullahu 29-yard field goal on the game’s final play. Edmonton had a quick two-and-out the drive prior to that. It was an odd game as Hamilton scored in every quarter but the second, in which Edmonton put up all 24 points for a 14-point halftime lead.

The Esks scored two second-quarter touchdowns off Ticats turnovers. Mike Reilly, named a CFL top performer for August, threw for three TDs in the second, but the offence went quiet after that. Derel Walker caught two of those scores.

Calgary Stampeders

The Stamps (8-1) are the only team with fewer than three losses and the only club with an unbeaten home record. They are +100 Grey Cup favourites. They rebounded from their only loss with a 39-26 home win over Winnipeg last week.

Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 452 yards and three touchdowns, and Kamar Jorden caught 10 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown. The Stamps exploded for 20 fourth-quarter points. Mitchell and Jorden set career marks in yardage and were named two of the CFL’s top performers of Week 11. Calgary defensive lineman Ja’Gared Davis was the third. He had three tackles and two interceptions, returning one for a score. Jorden was also named a top performer for August.
