This will be the third final game of the CFL Labour Day weekend, and it could be the best. Over the years their has never been any love lost between these two franchises and expect much the same on Monday.

The Stampeders could have their most important player back for this game as Bo Levi Mitchell is expected to make his first start since opening week.

CFL Odds and Betting

The Labour Day Battle of Alberta has taken place since 1949, and now Monday will be the 60th year of the Stampeders and Eskimos meeting on this day.

In the previous 59 games, remarkably the two teams are even at 29-29-1. However, the Stampeders enter this game on a seven game Labour Day winning streak, and since the 2006 season the Stamps are a dominate 11-2 over 13 years.

Overall, the Stamps have won three of the last four games head-to-head with the Eskimos, and in three of the four games the margin of victory was six points or less.

Of note, four of the last six played have gone under the number. In those six games the number has averaged 52 points. This game on Monday afternoon opened at 48.

Edmonton Eskimos

The Eskimos defence is coming off their worst effort of the season allowing a season-high 34 points against to the Bombers and a back-up Quarterback that threw for under 100 yards the entire game.

When breaking down the team’s six wins (6-4 straight up) this season the Eskimos have not defeated a team (at the time of the game) with a winning record.

Red zone efficiently for the Eskimos is 14-for-30 which is not a good percentage considering Trevor Harris is the CFL’s leading passer. What this stat basically tells the average fan is, the Eskimos can move the ball at will, but once they hit the opposition’s 20 yard line, it’s a fail.

Harris leads the league in pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and has the best touchdown to interception ratio in the league 14:3. Scoring major must be a priority.

Calgary Stampeders

Last time the Stampeders were in action they watched a visiting Alouettes team erase an 11-point deficient and win at McMahon Stadium for the first time in a decade.

Entering this game with the Eskimos, the Stampeders are on a two-game losing streak, and have allowed 66 points against in the two games. On the bright side they have also scored 56 points for.

Head Coach Dave Dickenson is optimistic that Bo Levi Mitchell will be back for this game, but where have we heard this before? Last week Dickenson told the Calgary media that he was 99 percent certain that Mitchell would play against the Alouettes, but a pectoral strain early in the week prevented that from happening and Nick Arbuckle was back in action. Could this week be the return week for the franchise Quarterback? Stay tuned.
