Eskimos vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds

Both teams enter their Week 8 meeting with identical 4-2 records, and the winner will have the inside track on challenging the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for top spot in the West Division. And these teams will get to know each other rather well – this is the first of three meetings in a span of 5 ½ weeks.

CFL Odds and Betting

Calgary opened as a slight favourite but has seen the script flipped, and now enters the weekend as a small underdog. Part of that could stem from the fact that, while the Stampeders are 2-1 SU at home, they’re just +10 in point differential over that span. The Eskimos went 1-2 on a recent three-game road trip, but looked sensational in a 26-0 home rout of Toronto last time out and have gone 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against teams with winning records.

The total for this one is sitting at 46.5 – one of the lowest we’ve seen all season. And based on how both teams have fared of late, it still might not be low enough. The Eskimos are riding a four-game consecutive under streak and are a sizzling 7-1-1 to the under in their previous nine road games overall. The Stampeders have also finished below the number in each of their past four contests and are 4-1 in favour of the under in their past five vs. West Division foes.

Edmonton Eskimos

These teams haven’t faced off prior to Labour Day since the 2014 season – and the Eskimos can only hope the 2019 schedule quirk will produce a better result. Edmonton hasn’t won in Calgary since October 2015, and has just four victories at Commonwealth Stadium in the past 14 years overall. Eskimos running back C.J. Gable, who missed last week’s win over Toronto due to injury, returned to practice this week and is a good bet to return to the lineup.

Calgary Stampeders

While the Eskimos have the good fortune of avoiding injured Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell this time around, they might not be so lucky in future meetings. Mitchell is expected to throw Friday with hopes of returning for Calgary’s Aug. 17 game against the Montreal Alouettes. Mitchell was placed on the injured list with a shoulder injury he suffered in Week 3 against the B.C. Lions; Nick Arbuckle will start again Saturday in Mitchell’s absence.
