Elks vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction: CFL Week 11 Point Spread, Odds
The Edmonton Elks take their 0-9 record on the road to southern Ontario to face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats when Week 11 in the CFL opens on Thursday. Is this the week the Elks finally sip the sweet taste of victory? It won’t be easy. Hamilton is 3-5 and desperate to get back into the race for second place in the East Division.
The CFL odds have the Ticats as -5.0 favourites and the total is tabulated at 44.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
The Albertan and Ontarian sides battle for the second time this season. Hamilton took care of business as the visitors back in July, 37-29. Of note, as absolutely awful as the Elks have been in recent seasons, they did claim victory on Canada Day 2022. That said, it’s their only win against the Tiger-Cats in the past eight opportunities.
The eight-point margin earlier this year was by far the closest win for the Ticats, who typically obliterate the Elks.
Surprise, surprise, Edmonton is 3-6 against the spread this season. Not that that’s a good statistic but considering how bad the product on the field is, betters who are feeling frisky might be tempted, at least sometimes, to place a prop on the Elks. The dearth of offence has resulted in the over going 3-6 so far this season.
Hamilton’s 3-5 showing in the standings is reflected in their efforts against the spread. They have not covered their two most recent home games (Toronto and Montreal) but are 3-2 since starting the campaign 0-3. The under has connected thrice in a row, putting the over at 3-5 on the season.
Edmonton Elks
It’s like nice things aren’t allowed to happen to the Edmonton Elks. The club finds new ways to lose games. Week 110 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was another gobsmacking effort.
First, the decision was made to head into battle with young Canuck Tre Ford under centre. Second, Edmonton came out blazing, taking a 22-0 lead in the second quarter, making plays on offence and defence. Three, Blue Bomber stud QB Zach Collaros was injured in the second period, thus paving the way for a shockingly easy victory for the Elks. Oh boy.
Dru Brown stepped in under centre in place of Collaros and made the Edmonton defence look as terrible as it had all year, scorching the Elks’ secondary for over 300 yards and four TDs. Right on cue, Edmonton stopped scoring, save for a superb 70-yard score by Kyran Moore. Make the final 38-29 for the Bombers.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Tiger-Cats got the triple benefit of having played at home two weeks ago, then a bye, and a home game this week. The first tilt didn’t go according to script. Presumably, the club licked its wounds during the bye, so what happens on Friday night in Week 11? The Week 9 effort versus the Alouettes exemplified both the good and the bad with this Ticats ensemble.
Hamilton had an 11-3 lead at the break and intercepted Als QB Cody Fajardo twice. The offence didn’t look great, but the defence was more than holding its own. With Taylor Powell in at QB however, when the going got tough, not much happened in Hamilton’s favour. He threw two picks, and barely sniffed 200 yards through the air. Penalties and sloppy play allowed Montreal to storm back from an early fourth-quarter deficit with 18 unanswered points to win 27-14. No Tiger-Cat WR is in the CFL top ten in yards or scores. Whatever additional misery can be poured onto Edmonton will come from the defence like playmakers Jameer Thurman (48 tackles) and Malik Carney (five sacks).
