Elks vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 19 Point Spread, Odds

It’s a battle of the bottom feeders in West Division on Saturday in Calgary, with both teams set to miss the playoffs. The Elks were officially eliminated with a 28-24 loss against Saskatchewan last week. The Stampeders playoff hopes were also officially extinguished last week with a 32-15 loss in BC, ending the CFL’s longest active playoff streak.

Calgary opened as a 1.5-point favourite to win on the CFL odds, with the total set at 51.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

These teams have seen a lot of each other recently as this will be their third meeting in the last six weeks. Edmonton took the first two matchups, winning 35-20 on the road in Week 13 and 37-16 at home in Week 14. Both games finished comfortably above the total and eight of the last 10 head-to-heads have hit the Over.

The Elks sit fourth in the West Division with a 5-11 record. Edmonton has been a decent cover option at 9-7 against the spread this season, but they’re 0-3 ATS on their current three-game straight up losing streak.

You can add another dismal record Calgary didn’t want to the books in 2024 as their current seven-game winless streak is the longest stretch in the franchise since 1977. One interesting note, however, is that despite a winless 0-7 record on the road this season, the Stamps actually have a winning 4-3-1 home record. Keep in mind, they haven’t exactly paid bettors as they are 7-8 ATS overall and only have one cover in their last seven games.

Edmonton Elks

It came down to the wire last week, but a late fumble cost Edmonton the game and their season. McLeod Bethel-Thompson completed 33 of 41 pass attempts for 379 yards, two TDs and two interceptions. After spending last season in the USFL, Bethel-Thompson has had a resurgent year, ranking third in the CFL in passing yards (3,748) and second in TD passes (24). Kurleigh Gittens Jr. finished with a season-high 122 receiving yards, while Geno Lewis and Dillon Mitchell each had a touchdown catch.

The Elks have found a lot of success running the ball this season, with Justin Rankin (577 rushing yards), Kevin Brown (522) and Javon Leake (521) all ranking in the top 10 of the CFL for rushing yards. Edmonton averages the second-most rushing yards per game (119.0) in the league, but they’re also dealing with injury issues to Brown and Leake. Brown didn’t play last week, while Leake (nine carries, 15 yards, one TD) and Rankin (four carries, 13 yards) didn’t look like themselves.

Calgary Stampeders

It’s been a tough year for the Stampeders, who are dead last in the CFL with a 4-10-1 record. Things didn’t look any better last week, with Jake Maier passing for just 164 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, including an ugly 70-yard pick-six. Matthew Shiltz replaced Maier late in the fourth quarter, finishing 4-of-5 for 99 yards and a touchdown. It’s fair to wonder if Shiltz could get the start in Week 19.

The stats have been ugly for Calgary. Offensively, the Stamps rank second-last in the CFL in average total yards per game (367.8) and last in points per game (23.0). It’s not any better defensively, as they rank second-last in both average total yards allowed (391.4) and points allowed (30.0) per game.
