Elks vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 13 Point Spread, Odds

Are the Edmonton Elks starting to finally get it? They have to be feeling good about themselves after a double-digit win over the Ottawa Redblacks last week. Now they’ll try and continue to build momentum by topping their Alberta rivals.

Calgary is off a tough loss to the Toronto Argonauts. While they fought valiantly, the end result was a loss, something that’s been all too common for Calgary. Looking up at the standings, they’re merely 3-8, a win better than the Elks at 2-9. Momentum is pointing in Edmonton’s favor, so are they a live dog in this spot?

CFL Odds and Betting

While the Elks are 2-8 overall, they have been more competitive against the spread, going 5-5. Most of that is recent as they’ve covered three straight and four of five. In terms of this series, the over has hit in seven of the last 10 meetings.

As far Calgary, they have covered three of their last four games. They were an underdog in each of those contests, though, as they’ve haven’t been a favorite since Week 7. On the year, Calgary is 2-2 straight up and against the spread as a favorite.

Edmonton Elks

It was the Tre Ford game for Edmonton last week as their quarterback helped push the team to a double-digit victory over the Redblacks. Ford completed 15 out of his 18 passes for 317 yards and a touchdown without turning the football over. Receiver Eugene Lewis reaped the benefits of Ford’s big day through the air and hauled in three receptions for 112 yards.

It really feels like this team has (finally) turned a corner. Not only are they riding a two-game winning streak, they were quite competitive in the final loss before it. Remember, while the final score in their Week 10 loss to Winnipeg was 38-29, they had a double-digit lead at halftime. We had already seen signs that Edmonton might be turning things around.

In the five games spanning Week 4 through Week 8, Edmonton had totaled just 61 points. They have 54 points in the last two weeks and are averaging 27.7 over their last three. This is a confident team right now and they have to feel good about their chances heading to Calgary.

Calgary Stampeders

While this is mostly a meaningless game in the standings – the two teams have combined for five wins this season – it feels like there’s much more pressure on Calgary than Edmonton. To start, Edmonton was expected to be awful; Calgary wasn’t. And if we’re looking at the directions both teams are heading, the Stamps seem to be sinking while the Elks are on the rise.

The good news is that Calgary’s offense balled out last week as Jake Maier completed 25 out of his 42 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. We’ve seen these types of efforts in spurts but the Stamps have been far too inconsistent. Prior to last week, they hadn’t scored more than 20 points in four straight games.

On the other side of the ball, the defense is vulnerable. They allow 26.7 points per game and have already given up 294 total points on the season to their opponents. That’s the most in the CFL. When you add it all up, it’s hard not to like Edmonton as a dog in this spot.
