Elks vs. Lions Prediction: CFL Week 2 Point Spread, Odds
The Elks’ epic home woes continued in last weekend’s season, with a late rally falling short in a 17-13 loss to Saskatchewan. The Lions return home after hanging on for a 25-12 win in their season-opening date in Calgary, and now look to build on the three-game home win streak that closed out last season.
Backed by a massive 82% majority of sports bettors, the Argonauts have improved to 6-point favourites since opening as 5-point chalk. The total has also been on the rise, climbing slightly to 50.5 since opening at 50. However, it is the UNDER that has garnered 91% of the betting action.
CFL Odds and Betting
Saturday night’s matchup at BC Place marks the first of three meetings between these West Division rivals this season. The Lions dominated Edmonton in three lopsided victories last year, claiming wins by an average margin of 31 points and scoring an average of 52.5 points in their two head-to-head meetings on home turf. Overall, the Lions have taken four straight from the ELKs, both straight up and against the spread, and their prolific scoring has powered a 3-0 run for the OVER in their past three dates in Vancouver.
Edmonton Elks
The Elks stumbled out of the gate in last weekend’s season-opener. Edmonton spotted the Roughriders an early 7-3 before rebounding briefly on the strength of a second-quarter scoring catch by recently acquired receiver Eugene Lewis, who ended the day with 148 yards. However, it was an otherwise ordinary debut for Taylor Cornelius as the undisputed starting quarterback for the Elks. Cornelius mustered just 202 yards while connecting on just 13 of 25 pass attempts, and tossed two picks against his lone score.
BC Lions
Things went far better for Vernon Adams Jr. last week in his debut as the Lions undisputed starting pivot. Acquired last summer to fill the void after Nathan Rourke was sidelined by injury, Adams inherited the No. 1 job after Rourke departed for the NFL during the offseason. The 30-year-old connected on an impressive 28 of 26 pass attempts for 300 yards, and found the end zone twice against just one pick. Adams has also quickly developed chemistry with Dominique Rhymes. The Lions receiver picked up where he left off last season, which he closed out with a career-high 1401 receiving yards, pulling in eight catches for 109 yards and two scores.
