Elks vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 12 Point Spread, Odds

The Alouettes extended their current win streak with a narrow 27-24 victory in Saskatchewan last week, and now sport a league-best 9-1-0 record. Losers in their first seven games of the current campaign, the Elks have turned things around with three straight wins, capped by a lopsided 47-22 win in Hamilton last weekend and have now averaged an impressive 44.5 points per game while winning their past two road contests.

The Alouettes have vaulted to 7-point favourites on the CFL Week 12 odds. The Elks trail as +260 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 51.5.

CFL Week 12 Odds and Betting

The Alouettes have been a force on home turf since last fall, claiming victory in nine of 10 contests. That 9-1-0 run features three wins by double-digit margins. However, the squad has managed to cover in just two of their past four home dates and is a dismal 3-9-0 against the spread in their past 12 home dates when favoured by six or more points. The Als have maintained the upper hand in recent dates with Edmonton, winning five of their past seven meetings but have topped the Elks just once in nine clashes in Montreal since 2013, and have surrendered over 34 points per game to Edmonton over their past six home contests.

Edmonton Elks

The Elks have revived their fading playoff hopes during their current 3-0-0 run, and enter the weekend just five points back of the CFL West-leading Saskatchewan Roughriders with a game in hand. However, concerns linger over the team’s quarterback situation, particularly with Tre Ford’s status remaining uncertain after suffering a rib injury in the team’s 33-16 win over BC two weeks ago. McLeod Bethel Thompson stepped in for Ford last week in Hamilton, competing 15 of 23 pass attempts for 234 yards and two scores, both after the squad had taken a dominant lead. Indeed, the real star of the Elks offence last week was receiver Justin Rankin, who galloped for 108 yards and three touchdowns that proved to be the difference in the game. Should Ford be unable to go, look for Rankin to take on another big assignment moving the ball against a Montreal rush defence that has not allowed a score in three games.

Montreal Alouettes

The Alouettes have certainly looked like defending Grey Cup champions while storming to the top of the league during the first half of the season. Now perched as strong +210 favourites to repeat on the Grey Cup odds, the Alouettes have enjoyed the benefit of a stingy defence that ranks second overall in total points allowed, and has limited opponents to just 2.83 points in first-quarter action over their past six games. However, this squad has also consistently stumbled out of the gate, scoring just three total points in the first quarter over their past three contests. An injury to Cody Fajardo forced the team to turn to back passer Davis Alexander over the past four week. Alexander turned in a solid performance last week, tossing for 285 yards and one score, and adding a scoring run. However, Fajardo is expected to return to action on Sunday against Edmonton, against which he connected for 254 yards and two TDs in a 23-20 road win back in Week 2.
